Hello,

Just registered today.

Does anybody know what the poxy-shield kits weigh in pounds? There is no mention of it on the web site.

Also, on the web site it reads "Fiberglass sheathing application (includes all coats): 50 to 60 square feet per gallon."

Just how many coats do they mean, and does it imply that cloth is used on each coat?

Thanks so much.

Kind regards,

Mark

Mark,

Poxy-Shield Kit #2 (1.2 gallons) weighs about 14 lbs. The figure for laminating would be for laying up one layer of cloth--it would not include additional coats. Keep in mind that these are estimates. Hope that helps...

Hey Gayle,

Thanks for the information. Honestly, and just as a suggestion, I would add the weights to the web site, for shipping purposes. It might be useful for somebody ordering.

Regarding the poxy-shield, how many layers of cloth is normally required? I realize much depends on the application, but would it be better to apply several coats with thin cloth or fewer with thicker cloth? Does one method yield stronger results?

Thanks again.

Kind regards,

Mark

Thanks for the suggestion Mark. We use one layer of cloth and about 3 coats of epoxy. Keep in mind that fiberglass covering a wood boat is not done for strength, but for ease of maintenance and protection from the elements.
