Okay, so it is not really a BOAT...the back of my truck is aluminum (I think) I have sanded it down and want to prime it and paint it, what is the best paint for that type of metal, or something that would work with either aluminum or steel?

Zinc chromate primer works on both aluminum and steel. If it's an OEM box it'll be steel though.
