what is the best way to "fair" wood frames prior to placing the plwood, I have read of a fairing board? what is it made of, size etc? any help would be appreciated as my frame is 99% complete and ready for the plywood preparation.
Thanks, Gregg from Boston

I use a 1/4 x 3/4 wood batten. You need it long enough to reach over several frames at a time. This will show you how much to tapper each frame (or build up  ).

Fair each frame until the batten lies smoothly on all frames.

Ditto.

But don't settle with just the frames. Check each layer of laminations has you go.

I just finished putting on my plywood and did not have too much trouble with fairing the lines of the hull. I followed the advice of a fellow blogger who recommended using a belt sander. After I burned up the first 'cheap belt sander', I bought a nice Porter Cable one and that made all the difference in the world. I started the actually fairing in the aft area, where it was easier to see the angle and just worked from there. You will definitely need a long thin batten to test bevel mating as you go and a piece of plwood in the bow area.

Good Luck and take it slow.
