Alright, back to the project at hand. I have started building the frame members for pontoon #2 and hopefully will install the last sheer laminate on #1 tomorrow. Want to know if it would be alright to remove #1 from the form after that.

I am not quite sure on what you are saying. Have you glued the plywood the the battens? You can use temporary stiffeners across the present skeleton and remove one at a time if your intention is to trace onto new parts the same shape of the existing setup. But until you get your plywood on the existing one, you will have a flimsey part to handle and will still need to hold the skeleton in place when you go back and put the plywood on it with what you have now in place.

I agree with Oyster.

would it not be easiest to keep this pontoon on the building form until it is "done"? (Plywood on, glassed, and painted.)

Guys,

Sorry for any confusion. Was just wondering if this particular skeleton would be strong enough to remove without plywood. Seems strong as a tank on the form. Don't have room in my garage to set up another form and wanted to start framing pontoon #2. Then I could fair both of them at the same time. Plus it would be easier to fair the bow, especially the sheer since there is an area where they rest on the form. Would have plenty of room in my shop if my son-in-law hadn't taken it over.

Can you rig a setup like this?

If I didn't have to open the garage doors I could. Thinking about detaching the form from the sawhorses and storing the whole thing in a friend's shop. Then build a new form, the first one cost less than 10 bucks. After I finish framing #2 I can put them side by side on sawhorses and work on both at the same time. Haven't gotten any work done today. Need help cutting the last 16' sheer laminate. My son has new girlfriend. :( Enough said.

Just go ahead and finish the first one, which will give you practice instructing your son on the how tosssss after you remind him that he must now learn to work for food unless his girl friend is willing to feed him this week.

That gives me an idea, I might have to leave him alone and let his girlfriend start feeding him. That would save me a fortune. Couldn't sit in the house any longer, so I called on the B team. (youngest son and son-in-law) Fine lads, but I just can't stand the feet dragging, eye rolling, belly aching, etc.. Don't know how my daughter puts up with it.  Enjoy working with both my sons. The older son and I have gotten to the point where we know what the other is doing.
Anyway, installed the last sheer laminate tonight and #1 pontoon is framed up. :D

Hey, it just hit me. I haven't once thought about how I am going to power this baby. Wonder if I should check with Mr. Hot Rod and see if he has any suggestions.

I believe Jimmy70 might just have the ticket for you. Give him a PM.

Dave,

The power thing was just a joke. Going electric. Electric what I don't know yet. Hope you are feeling better.

Thank you , I got a bit of food poisoning that knocked me to me knees for 2 days. My stomach chose not to reside inside my body for the first day. Yesterday, pure dizziness and headache. Today much better.

Had a wonderful Sunday School fellowship Saturday evening in honor of the birth of our Lord but I just sat there. I sure hated to see all that deep fried turkey being gobbled up by the rest of the class. :(

Miss being in the shop for a few days as well.

Reckon, I will head down there this evening, lower Midnight from her swing into the cradle and start some framing work that cannot be messed up by the engine placement.

Thank you for the thoughts.

I would at least plank the pontoon, then move it....it insures no tweaking then

Here is an update for anybody that might be interested. Between the holidays and a beaver invasion in one of our ponds (almost lost it, had water coming over the dam Christmas Day) I haven't been able to get much done.

But, here we go. Ding, Ding round 2

"Image"

Upspirate and Oyster,
I know that y'all were concerned with me releasing the first frame from the building form. So what I did was remove the building form from the sawhorses and built a second one. I will position them side by side when pontoon #2 is framed, making sure both are plum and square. My reasoning for this is because I want them to be as close to twins as possible. Imagine building two boats that mirror each other. I have pontoon #1 about 90% faired.

Man, I need to clean up.

Oyster,

My dead line is the first full moon in May, when the bream are on bed. If I don't make it my Admiiral is going to kick me out of her navy. :( That will not happen because without me she knows her whole fleet would sink.
