does anyone out there know if "African" Mahogany is suitible for boat frames? I may have good access to it.

I was originally planning on White Oak but may have a good deal on African Mahagony.

THANKS!

I am using Sapele myself (African) on my frames and as far as I've researched its an excellent material. Strong, nice color, not too hard on the tools, rot resistant, moderate weight. Good stuff.. all the better if you can get it locally for a good rate. Pick your grain/cut well and you will do fine.

I scored about 150 board ft of African Mahaogny I traded 2 glass shower enclosures for it.Not sure what to do with it yet.Thinking about building another small river boat out of ply wood and using some of it around the top of the gunwale.I will use some yo build a new front door for my house.I have wanted to get rid of the cheep builder steel door for a long time. It will have a 16" raised pannel at the bottom and 6 lites of beveled glass in the tom 2/3.Sorry guys got a little off track there
