 Post subject: do I need to fiberglass?

New bee here NUB

I am planing on building a cracker box. Have almost all the wood. Plan on using mahogany :? over the plywood. Can I just use Epoxy over everything than varnish it, or do I need to glass it. The boat will be used very little and will be taken out after every use and put inside. Thanks Art

Hi Keg.

Generally, yes, you should glass your boat.

At a minimum, you should glass below the waterline to provide abrasion resistance.

I would go with the glass cloth as wooden boats tend to flex,expand and shrink, epoxy on it's own will crack.Best of luck and welcome to the forum.

Thanks. I have the book and DVD on fiberglass. I just love the feel of wood, not glass, better off than cracks. Art
