hi ,i was planning on useing white cedar for my deck > will epoxy R. make it tough enough as it is very soft wood,it would look great :!: mike im worried abut dings and dents 2 coats ??

Epoxy, in and of itself, once fully cured is very hard. It has a hardness rating just a little less than formica. Therefore, it would provide protection for the cedar by itself provided it is not very thin.

However, a canoe, if used, suffers a lot of abuse. I would suggest you add a layer of protection and fiberglass it as well. This would also help stabilize the wood from all the torque pressures the canoe experiences (like being wrapped around a boulder). For the deck, you can go light on the glass, for example 3-4oz material but I would use heavier clothe for the bottom and sides, ie 6 oz.

Yes, apply a light fiberglass cloth. Something like 4 oz is fine. It will provide a resistance to penetration and will control checking if ceder is prone to that (I'm not familiar with it).

Remember that epoxy needs uv protection. Color paint, clear paint or a varnish.
