are there any restrictions as far as physically locating a battery in boat?

that's what I am considering,,, just wondered if there was some obscure reg somewhere that said you cant have it too close to the fuel tank or in the engine compartment or some other restriction.

Shamelessly poached from the USCG regs:

Batteries - Must be secured so they cannot be moved more than 1" in any direction; terminals must be protected so that metallic objects cannot contact ungrounded terminals (positive battery terminal); and be vented to permit the discharge of hydrogen gas. Batteries cannot be installed directly above or below a fuel tank, fuel filter or fuel line fitting.


I had to laugh at their statement about battery above fuel components. I had a 914/6 that suffered from the battery above the fuel lines. It went "POOF" on the way to work one day. Don't put the battery above the fuel lines, there really is no way to look cool as your junk goes up in flames.

thanks guys,, pretty much what i figured,,, common sense would say not to stick it near fuel,,,
