I started my build on the Jubilee but still not desided on power plant going into it. been weighing the pros and cons of outboard i/o and inboard how about some views taking in consideration of the fact that the boat will be on a trailor in the winter. so will have to winterise the boat each year. but realize will have to winterise all the different types of power plants installed also will have to problly use a used engine

The straight inboard will be the most difficult to maneuver. The I/O will be the most difficult to install. The outboard is the easiest to build... But, do you want that thing hanging off the back?

since I will be putting into cove to anchore for the night and it will be used primarlly for fishing possablly in shallows hmm good point local boat shop told me I should go with out board but like you said about the motor hanging off the back but there is the thing about inboard and i/o units herd bad stories about used equipment with them.

Totally agree. Stay with an outboard if possible. The inboard is an absolute PAIN to manuever in close quarters. I am going to put bow thrusters on my next.

any advise on good book on outboard motor or marine engines other than having limited experience with the large ship motors in navy ships my only knowledge is in a old Johnson 25 hp we had as a kid on our old berch craft and that was very limited

well I got some work done today after taking the Mil with me yard selling well here some pic's

the first bottom piece for frame

started laminating two more pieces for bottom frames

The wood pile I am starting to make a dent in it

I just bought my tow vechical for my boat but I am not going to say what it is other than it is one ton with 5th wheel hitch and regular towing set up and the electrail brake set up already in it I'am not getting in between you guys ford chev fude I own both types. what i got is a older model 1968 but with only 85000 miles on it and a big block motor i do have to have a clutch put in it but i got the truck for 800.00

The straight inboards dont have to be difficult to manoever. Given a keel and large rudder, a single engine inboard does turn and dock like you think it should.
The operative words here are keel and large rudder.

I had to clean the floor so I could epoxy together the pieces I had 3 foot of saw dust in there. Also you got to remember that its my mother in laws shop and her truck sits in there. sure you would never tell sure the best keep secret is one that is never told. actually I own at least one each of the major us brands vehicles

the jubilee is a modified v bottom only about a 4 in rise from the keel to the chimes it does call for a pretty good size skeg the boat design can hold all of the type motor combination's but I have a 800 pound weight limit. I still haven't decided on what to put in it. it probably will be what I can get cheap

The boss informed me we are headed out tomorrow for the mountains to go camping and fishing. guess she will have to drag me out in them there hills right It is kind of yearly thing we do about this time of year so will be gone for a few days.

I hate to disagree with other posters, BUT, an inboard will always be difficult to maneuver around the docks. Going forward, no problem. It's backing up where the problems arise. Depending on the rotational direction of the prop the boat will be biased towards backing in only one direction. You will always be backing up in a turn even though you have full oposite rudder. It's just the way it is. Keel, fins, rudders do not solve this problem. When you learn which direction your inboard backs up, simply approach the dock at a 45 degree angle (forwards), and when the bow gets a couple of feet from the dock, put it into reverse and the stern will swing around so that you are parallel to the dock.

Garry - I wish mine would swing around like you say. I watched some others do just that this past weekend. Mine backs almost straight with very little bias to one side.
