Before you leave and when you get home, Flush your engine and bilge.

The Tennessee River has Variable Leaf Milfoil. You don't want to take it home.

Ok what is that you are talking about. Is it something that can be taken from one place to the other...

ABSOLUTELY!

I wrote about it when I did that article for the newsletter when Bob Maskel and I took the Chattanooga trip 2 years ago. It started out as a plant for tropical pet tanks and someone, back in the 50s, dumped their aquarium in the river and NOW look at what we've got.

Guys,
I once had Variable-Leaf Milfoil (coontail) almost take over one of my ponds and it cost me dearly to get rid of it. There was a problem with it in Lake Murray several years ago. Some channels were almost blocked by it.

... something I don't want to bring back to my lake in Ontario...

I'm hoping that there are fresh water hoses for flushing the engines and rinsing the bilges?

Lake Simcoe ,in Ontario Canada has become home to Zebra mussels and these little fish call Asian Gobes. Terrible things and I certainly don't want to cross contaminate any of our Canadian crap in the U.S. So don't worry, I have flushed my engine after we took it from Lake Simcoe and I will give it a thorough flush before we leave the great State of Tennesse!!!

Milfoil is no joke, rinse boats, motors, and trailers. It spreads like wild fire and can take over a lake if not properly delt with. A lake in my home state got infested and you couldn't go 50 feet without getting the weed tangled in the prop, which also helps in spead. It cost the state, town, and lake asso. alot of money and many years to get it under control. Don't take it home with you, your home waters will thank you.

Ken,
I don't think it can survive salt water. It seems to prefer slow moving clear water. It is found mainly in the midlands here in SC.

What's going to happen to us if we wade in that water or eat the Catfish out of it?
