There is guy around the Charleston area building an inboard 24 foot. But I have not seen him around lately. What are you planning on building?

Just joined - thinking of building a barrellback. Leaning toward the Monoco Utility. Need room for the kids. I also had a childhood freind that had one similar - good handling boat and good skiing.

Welcome Aboard,

Gluedandscrewed,
Is North of you near Greenville and is building a Monte Carlo. He is ain't from around here :shock: but, don't hold that against him. ( sorry Glued ) He does great work and seems to be a nice guy. :D BTW, I'm South of you near Aiken.

Thanks for the welcome. The company I work for has offices in Greenville and a plant in Aiken. Greenwood seems to be an hours drive from everwhere. :D

I do have some questions - where did you source your lumber from. Alos what finally made you "take the leap" and start building. The more I research, the more I want to build but also more afraid to start. I have some woodworking exp (Father-in-law is local and execelent and willing to help).

Just need a little push to get started.

Thanks again - Jon.

hey Jon,,to answer some of your questions;
got tired of coming home, sitting down and watching TV, also looking at the cost of a boat that i wanted got me really motivated. Used to build and operate nuclear reactors never picked up a piece of wood till i got into this,, matter of fact was without a table saw till the wife wanted a new floor in the living room, that was right at the time i started planking the deck. I know ,,, we all make the mistake of letting the wife know we can turn on a power tool!!!!!!
i got all my ply from a place in Tampa, at $37 for 1/4 in. meranti couldnt be beat, anything else i needed in way of wood i got from place in spartanburg, they seem to have just about any kind thats needed. I can dig out the names if you want. As far as building it really is not that difficult but it will take some time so dont get started thinking you are going to be on the water in a couple of months and dont get frustrated, if not sure about which way to go, just step back, ask for help and go on to some other part of the build, there will always be something else you can do, you'll be surprised how many times the answer comes in the middle of the night. :) your boat and mine , besides the little size difference, are built pretty much the same way, youre welcome to come and see what you are going to be up against anytime. Help is always appreciated , so a helpful in-law cant hurt but not necessary, mine has been a solo effort even to the point of flipping her over 3 times.

Thanks for posting the the info. the web site is good.

Can you dig out the place in Spartanbug? We also have an office and warehouse there. I can check out the lumber yard the next time I am in town.

Your reasons to build sound a lot like mine. Spent the last several year completing an MBA program and raising the kids. Now that the school is done and the kids are older, I need a project. Want someting to do w/ my hands and have always loved to boat. Just that the new boats are very $$$ and don't seem to have any personality.
