i am really interested in the aqua cat because it is looking to be the only cat that has a semi decent cabin. my question is can either the 22' wildcat e-x-t sport or the 24' wildcat e-x-t cuddy be designed as a cabin cruiser and not a work boat. yes the 24 and 22 have a bed but i would like a head a galley and if possibly a dinette in the 24' model are there separate designs i can buy that would have a pre designed cabin or would i be forced to re model and re design the whole thing? if i was forced to re design the whole thing how would you go about redesigning something like that a whole cabin.

now if you guys could indulge me farther and answer some building questions that would be amazing.

this project would be my first ever build of anything more then a bird house. i have no experience with anything really. reading it it says plywood construction is that just plywood then painted? or you build it out of plywood then fiberglass it? the two larger 22 and 24 have the aluminum option can some one tell me what the benefits of aluminum are? is the build time faster in aluminum? i am not in to much of a hurry.

a builder stated to me that building a catamaran is pretty much building three boats. you have the two hull's and the the middle that makes sense to me but is it also the equivalent of building 3 similar sized boats?

if possible can some one give me a man hour estimate on any or all of the boats the 18 aqua cat 22 wildcat 24 wildcat?

also does any one know why glen L does not have any sailing catamaran designs (at least not posted) are the currently in the process of designing them or even thinking about it?

most design are fiber glass encapulated but they don't have to be but they last longer if they are. the topside decking can be modified to contain a cabin but keep in mind the cob of the boat and there is a weight factor in all boats and how well they proform. this is just a brief expo the what can do the big boys I am sure will be on later and can give you more detail or call glen-l and talk to the designers

As for building in aluminum, it may be quicker if you know how to weld. There are guys on the forum that are aluminum builders and may have more input. From emails I get, some prefer it because (a) they like/know how to weld (b) they boat in waters with lots of obstacles like rocks (c) maintenance ease. It's a preference. Ken wrote quite an extensive article about alumunim boatbuilding:

We don't have hours to build estimates on many of our designs because that's such a variable and most are building in their spare time and don't keep track of them. Some of the guys on this forum mention hours to build, you could extrapolate from that...

As for sailing catamarans, we have two--the L Gato and La Chatte--they are small and neither have cabins, but they are mad fun and fast.

I built and sailed the LaChatte in about 1970. It is a great design! Mine was the first sailboat to get a waterskier(135 lbs) up while sailing on a nearby resorvior. Got him up 4 different times before he was too tired (a sailboat will not pull a skier up quick as quick as a powerboat) Gayle is right - it is lots of fun!

As with all multi-hulls, watch your total hull weight! When you start packing "things" aboard, your speed and efficiency suffers.
