Yup, thanks a heap for posting those pics with your daughter. I generally read everything to see if there is any possibility I could add to a post and be, if not somewhat lighthearted, maybe a tad bit helpful. Then you go and post these pictures of your daughter transfering patterns.

So McKenna has basically destroyed my male ego, I am crushed that she will probably help you finish your boat before I ever get mine done, but i will not let this young lil whipersnapper show me up. I am gonna haul my butt down to the cellar and start doing something on that boat even if its wrong ( and it probably will be...but McKenna doesnt have to know that)

Steve

PS...I woud never admit it if I had a tear in my eye about that story, so I wont. And they grow up quick...My 19 year old (daughter) just informed me that she wants to buy a Harley. My wife is none too pleased about that, and just keeps saying: Why does she have to be so much like YOU ?

Thanks for the kind words guys. It is truly rewarding to get to spend some time sharing something I love with her. She has actually called a couple of times just to make sure we have some boat building time together this weekend. I have made a point to patiently wait for her until this weekend to continue working on the boat. We will probably trace the stem and remaining floor boards. If there is additional time I would like to transfer more of the patterns to the layout board. I will keep you informed of any progress we make. Thanks again.

I just wanted to post an update. This weekend Mac and I were able to draw the stem, remaining floors, and transfer Frame #1 lines to the layout board. I am going to cut out the transom, stem, breasthook and floors before she comes back in two weeks (I promised her I would, so my wife must understand :D ). Our plans for our next weekend together are to assemble one frame.

No pics loaded yet, but we did take some. I was too busy working last night to get them loaded.

Did not end up getting my girls this weekend as they had a party for their cousin's birthday. So, I did take a "mental" health day and draw all the frames on the layout board yesterday. It looks really neat with them all drawn out there with their respective relationships to the set-up level. It says in the pattern instructions to only draw the outer frame dimension, but I wanted to draw all the different pieces of each frame so that since my cutting wasn't exactly perfect I can pick a spot in the middle of the outer/inner frame dimension. I think I may be off by as much as 1/8" on some pieces, but its a boat not rocket science.

Posted 5 new pics today, but still no significant progress. Hope to begin assembling frames soon.

HI Robert, looks like your gaining. Good for one to draw and think it thru before cutting. Having a good picture of your next step will help in the making. It'll help your "helpers" out also.

John,

Amy was in Florida (Lakeland) this weekend visiting family with the digital camera. I got a lot done, and plan to update the website shortly. I also have a buddy here at work who is attempting to show me how to set up a real website and not just a photo log. However, it probably will not be done for a couple of months if I can find time.

I spent the better part of this weekend working on the boat. I was actually able to use my epoxy for the first time. What a mess. Anyway, I was able to get things moving along by glueing and fastening together frames #1 and #2. Also, put the breasthook and stem together. Good times, and the epoxy is not a difficult as I thought. It set up nicely within 24 hours, and provided a very nice looking joint. However, I did learn quite a bit about preparation being key to successfully/efficiently using the "goop".

Glad to see ya got some time, on the side. All good things, do take time. Better than trying to hurry and messing up. Doing it right, is always the best way to go. Even if one has to take the time to practice to perfect the skills, before doing the actual. Which I'll be doing myself, throughout the process. Taking time to enjoy the works of ones labor is always a good thing, ex-specially if it's your own. ( Just hurry up and do send some pic's WHEN, you get your camera back  ) Thanks for keeping us posted.

Robert, how go's it? Were you able to get more time in on your frames?

Yeah, I have been working on it slowly but surely it is coming together. I hope to be hanging frames on the form very soon. I am possibly the slowest boat builder on the forum. Between kids, school, work, and the "Mrs." I have a grand total of 2 hours a week to work on the boat. I have taken pics of the frame construction as you asked a while ago. I plan to post them in the next 2 years. :D

Robert,

If you get a full 2 hours a week, you might consider yourself quite fortunate! I don't think I've had 2 hours in the last 2 months.

It's really not about the destination, it's about the journey.

Yep, time is hard to get, so therefore, OH SO VALUABLE. Might try making a list of things that only take a few minutes and work such into your day. I often have on my list just picking up a item at the hardware store, or measuring for this or that. Someone said, 7000 20-minute tasks need to be completed when building a boat.

I wish you well.

Dale :)

Dale,

Thank you for your encouragement and suggestions. I will just have to realize that sometimes I just need to be satisfied with working in 15 minute increments. Also, if I could just manage to spend a little less time reading about boat building, and more time actually doing it, then things would start moving faster.

Truthfully, I am planning to buy Amy a Tyvek suit and 3M respirator like mine so she can work with the epoxy with me. I am overly careful with the epoxy because I was sensitized about 7 years ago when building larger scale RC airplanes in my room in college.
