Thanks a ton Graham! That trim option gives me some material to study tonight at work. I know nothing about them, but I'm a quick study.

Now I have to go look at my plugs.

8 sheets of 1/4" Hydrotek from Houston Hardwoods is on it's way. They beat Homestead's price so I went with them.

The real difference was the crating charge. $75 vs. $20.

Total bill, $512

Great Andy! That's where I got mine and I wasn't disappointed.

Congrats Andy...its always fun when the building materials start piling up! Hopefully your building space is bigger then mine....i constantly have to move my building materials in and out of the garage to have room to work.

Well, building room is small--half of a two-car garage, but I have three feet on the wall side and I can always roll the bikes out.

I do all my cutting outside too. The sweat is drying from form construction as I type. I managed to squeeze in an hour and a half tonight and got it finished.

My package from Glen-L arrived today with glue and bronze hardware, so the frame is next.

Let me say how nice it is to be working with all the proper tools and sharp new hand saws of various types. That Japanese pull saw is the cat's behind!

Total time on build: 3 hours

I'm considering a fresh set of springs for my trailer and want to get the correct rate if I go that route.

Glen-L list the hull at 375ish for wieght. I figure mine would be 400lbs easy with the way I plan to finish it. With the motor (170-200), battery, fuel, and all the little stuff stuck in every nook and cranny, I thinking 700-750lbs on the trailer.

Does this sound about right for a guestimate?

My trailer was rated for 3500 lbs GVW and I wanted to derate it for my Zip. I bought two springs rated at 1250 lbs each from this place. I think 2000-2500 lb GVW would be good for our boats. I plan on putting a rack above the Zip to carry the Super Spartan, so I wanted a little extra carrying capacity.

My shipment of Hydrotek arrived yesterday. The driver and I got it into the garage, but I just got around to un-banding it and stacking it against the wall.

The first thing I noticed is how heavy it seemed. Far heavier than any 1/4" ply I've ever worked with. But, when I lifted the second sheet, it seemed to wiegh half as much. A bit baffeled and wanting to know if this was just my perception, I went and got my bathroom scale. The following is a list of the wieght of each piece in pounds:
36
18
30
30
22
34
26
22

As you can see, the second piece WAS half as much as the first! I carefully inspected each sheet and compared color, ply counts, veneer thickness, the works. I wanted to make sure they had not mixed in another brand like Aquatek. A few sheets had the Fuji Hydrotek stamp with the 1088 grade listed. Some were not stamped at all, but all were otherwise identical.

I went with Hydrotek, because my study indicated that it was among the best, with the highest grade, but I have to tell you. I'm having serious concerns about product consistency with this plywood. The overwhelming likelihood is that these sheets are all from the same batch, but the wieght differences have me worried about large voids and a host of other concerns.

Can someone put my mind at ease and tell me this is all normal?
