Well, anything in 3/8" ply is very difficult to find here and this what I need for my gussets. I can get 3/8 in BC fir ply or exterior but not fir AB or marine locally. What do you think about using my available options of 3/8 exterior or BC fir for the gussets?
Thanks,
Adam

If you get the 3/8" fir as you have spoken about in the past, you will probably have more than enough leftover fir for your gussetts from the cutoffs. The issue though is that you will probably not cut the bottoms and sides before you do the frames. Some folks here have used an alternative method too and that is half laps at the joints. There are threads about that too. Frankly you can use the hardwood too as long as you arrange your grain properly too. and cut the pieces about 1/2". A big point of note, make sure you counterbore your holes in the smaller pieces so you do not end up spliting the pieces. Use good quality wood screws or even the rink shanked ones.
