OK, I got it. I scratched around the shed and found a old pushrod-cut a enough countersink on the end until the indicator would sit there. Dropped the pshrod in the hole and got a good reading. Yes, I really do have a 3.0l cam in there.
However, something seemed weird when I went thru and adjusted all the valves. Some of them seemed to loosen up 2full turns before I got the a loose lash. I set them up to zero lash + 3/4 turn. Some of them had to back off 2 turns to get back to zero. Seems weird.
