Hey Jimmy, glad things are going well. The guitar is looking great! Keep it up!

Well finally got the damn things done and working half decent. I had some problems with both necks on these two guitars and may have been from sitting out in a cold shop all winter. Both necks were twisted just a bit on the high E string side and I had to clamp and heat the necks to take out the twist. I really am confused as to why this happened. They were not strung up with any tension on them so don't know why they twisted a dab unless it was from the high humdity. Anyway with some progressive clamping pressure and a hot hair drier and a couple times with some heat lamps I was able to make them tweak over and seem to be holding now. The D45 style guitar really plays nice and has a brilliant output. Classic is okay except the neck is still to thick so will have to do some serious filing on that but the tone sounds good.

The classic is beautiful, but that D45 has me really drooling.

Thank you one and all for the nice comments. I started yesterday on another D style guitar and making the box out of the zebra wood, Spuce top, mahogany neck. Hoping this one will go together okay too. I think the zebrawood does not resonate as good as I thought it would so I am thinning the wood down a extra .010-.020 on the back and sides to see if that helps. The sides are now around .085 thick and .090 on the back pieces. I am using my old 1939 D 18 Martin mold and bracing system that I have hung onto for many years, 1972 I think. I hope all of the work will be for naught but one never knows until it is strung up and you hit the first of the notes. I will be taken photos as I go along with this one too.

Off to a bad start...OOPS....I used my aluminum mold for bending the sides for the guitar and use BBQ electric heaters to heat it up to around 150F. I found this is enough heat to set the wood good and not burn it. Well in my haste I had put the sides in the wrong direction the wide ends were supposed to be on the bottom side of the guitar and when I heated them up they sure as hell would not fit the mold. So I had to unbend them and get them going on the right direction which means 180 degree rebend. With lots of clamps and heat and a dab of water for steaming effect they moved right around and now sitting in the heated mold and cooling down. Oh well no need to hurry is there....

Alright Jimmy !! Sounds like you made one of those miracle recoveries already in this process !! You can also thank God that "unbending" wood is not as difficult as "unringing" a bell !! Good job!
Did't see the pics though!

I should have taken a photo of that when I started. I did get a shot of the sides in the bending mold and will post that later.
I am trying a process that I haven't done before far as guitars but been reading about it. I am going to give the inside and outside of all of the wood an epoxie coating, very thin and then sanded down good to see how it works out. I swabbed on some of it on the back and got it hanging to dry and see what it does before going head long and ruining anything else.
Trials and tribulations as we move along in life.
Jimmy
