I have been talking with a member about this via private messaging. My Brother is importing this new toy from USA to Australia and has struck some red tape snags.

When it gets here he has asked me to help him fly it across Australia from Gold Coast to Perth. It's 6 1/2 hours in a commercial jet so probably 2 days in this baby. At least it has TV screens... ;)

That is sweet! Load that sucker with fuel and just land somewhere in that vast outback and refuel and keep on going? Isn't that possible? Wonder how many airports there are between the two?. It's like riding a harley across country...you had better fill up every chance you get because you just don't know when the next station is going to be available!

Sounds like a fun trip! Too many bells and whistles for me...wouldn't know which buttons to push. I must have flown back when seat of the pants was cool!

My goodness, that does not look anything like my C182 I sold a few years ago.

I have a buddy that has a place next to a strip in the wet sundays. It's much too nice and yes, a lil outta the way but who cares!!! What a fuel stop!!!!!! :D

Straight across I don't reckon that's doable.... Alice Springs is kinda in the middle...

Extra tanks fitted. NO luggage, pilot max weight limit, no passengers, lean her out, cruise high, hold your nose right.. pray for tailwind.... the joys of piloting I guess.

At least if he runs out of fuel the empty temporary tanks will provide flotation..... :P

Hmmm...sounds like it may have been less expensive to ship it over...can that be done? ..

Dang one guy alone for a long ride...what is the service ceiling on that thing?

Wow, what a ride!...what a job!!

It was cheaper to fly it than remove the wings, ship over then reassemble and repair the damage. Still cost $20,000 to get it here without registration, extra tanks etc.
Nice job alright, but that leg would be VERY boring. Hope he has a couple ipod's and lots of coffee.

If somebody quoted $20G's to box and ship it I want that job. We have shipped several planes to Italy for around $6000 to 9000 each and one to the Phippipines. Maybe we need to raise our rates. :D

How much extra fuel are you carrying. That is one long haul.

I'll find out for you. Ray just said the pilot turned back just after half way along that leg.... Apparently the HF radio they took failed so he made the decision to go back even though he was more than half way. Maybe he was worried about finding Hawaii without the HF radio???? Nav was fine (built into the plane).
