Steve,
I'm sorry it took me so long to reply, but I have been busy with my other two big boat builds.

I plan on painting the bottom and the sides up to the waterline. Then apply clear on the sides. I haven't decided on what I will use for the clear yet. I don't know what you could use that would be slightly transparent yet darken the yellow pontoon color. Post your question in the paint section and I bet you will get your answer there. :D

Guys,

I am back to thinking about how I'm going to figure out how to determine the waterline so I can paint the bottom of the pontoons. Originally I was going to put it all together, weigh her down (guessing of cource), float and mark. Now after rereading the specs it says she should have a max draft of 9". Not wanting to put it all together and take apart I'm leaning towards masking off at 8" and then if I need to add a strip. Any thoughts?

You said a MAXIMUM draft of 9 inches. Maybe you could put a wide stripe (3 inches?), say between 6 and 9 inch draft marks. This way you would indicate a range of safe operating displacements. Not sure if this helps but I wanted to chime in.

WOW  While a beautifull thing that swamp is, folks look at the potential for natural knees, stems and even natural framing for a round stern there folks! I think I see a bigger bandsaw in your future Chipper.

The only thing lacking here is the buzzing sound of the nature in that area, the state bird[photo added for folks, especially Dave not familiar with that area]

and a shot of his neighbors that I saw in that area in a recent boobtube show.

Not quite. Gertrude would be most offended if I dared pick up a bow but she was busy paying attention to some noise up the hill and let the bear slip up on me on the wrong side to within 10 yards. She is most ashamed and hangs her head down low right now. But I will give her a chance to redeem herself againt this fall.

Mike,

I can tell from your picture of our state bird that it has been a long time since you have been down there. They are much bigger now. We gave up on spraying for them. We now use shotguns.
As far as the neighbors go, I will take Glenn and Mitchell over most city slickers anyday!!! :D

Dave,

Leave Smokie alone.

I have the two skegs rough cut to shape. I'm going to radius the leading edges and give them a good sanding. But, for the life of me I can't figure out what good they do on top of the pontoons. Glen must have seen me operate a boat before he did these plans.

Actually I bet you got the plans that were slated for the folks down under. Let me send you the right chart before you launch the boat.
