I have about 40 hours so far in my Stiletto build. I spent the first day studying the plans, laying out and cutting templates for all the frames, stem, breasthook, knee and transom. I have all the frames assembled and the transom and stem laminated. I had purchased a 4X8 sheet of plywood for the transom and other pieces and found I could only get one piece for the stem. It wound up costing me less to cut the two pieces out of a 1X8 piece of oak, so I have a solid oak stem. I did the same thing with the floor timber on frame 5.
The end of last week I cut all the pieces and assembled the two uprights of the building form. Today I cut the pieces for the keel, bottom battens, chines and sheers. In the next couple of days I hope to transport everything to the shop in Gloversville to start putting it together.
I haven't notched the transom for the keel and battens yet. I'm thinking of notching for each member rather than cutting the section all the way across as shown in the plans. I still have to cut out the transom cap.
Total cost so far including plans and fasteners from GlenL $874.00.
I act ually meant to put this in Power Boats; but I never seem to know just where I am.

Stiletto is one of my favorites for speed boats. Congrats on the good start and like others I hope to see some photo's posted some time!

I'm still working on the deck on the Squirt. I need two more coats of resin on the side decks and then varnish. It's been raining almost evry day for the last three weeks and I had to move the boat outside because of all my power tools. I still haven't put on the small rear piece or the engine hatch. I'm waiting for a "Y" fitting for my bilge pumps.

Today I finished installing the chines and sheers and started fairing

Awesome.. fairing may feel a bit challenging but once you put the skin on her it will be all worth it.

I bought a power planer last week. I had both chines done in about 90 minutes and worked on the starboard sheer the rest of the afternoon. I should have bought a better planer though. Even the silicon-bronze screws eat up the blades. The solution was to plane down close to the screws and then use my sander for the rest. The biggest job is fairing between frame 5 and the stem. No matter how deep I countersink I still cut through screws.

I love my el cheapo B&D power planer. But you're right about those screws. I used my belt sander with 50 grit to get to the final shape.

Worked on the Stiletto again today. I think I'm in full production mode.

Four more hours of work today. Total hours 129. Bottom and sides ready for fibreglassing. Fibreglass is coming on Tuesday, so I'll be working on the Squirt tomorrow.
