compressed air brad nailer?

Post by Yakima »

assuming I can locate bronze or stainless steal brads, can I use a compressed air brad nailer to attach the gussets to the frame timbers?

thanks, Yakima

Welcome.

I always shoot a few brads into the gussets. At glue-up the gussets tend to move on you. The brad will hold it in place until the epoxy cares. Some people say that's enough. I prefer to predrill and add bronze ring nails.

You should be able to locate SS brads at any good construction supplier, the Big Box stores often have limited selections.
This is my first, last and only boat build.

I got a variety of SS brads at a construction supplier.
Used a LOT of them, very handy for glue ups.
Oak is over rated, everything about it takes extra time; then it warps, splits or checks !!!

I do it before the cure. That way I can take the frame off the table, set it aside & work on the next one.
