Re: New displacement hull design wanted

It sounds more like you're looking for a Dory design. They are rowable, have a flat enough planform at the rear to allow stability for fishing yet have more of the V-hull or even rounded hull at the stem. Something like this: http://www.shearwater-boats.com/doryplan1.htm or Glen-L's Sissy Do: https:...

Re: When real boats plowed the waters.

I actually got the idea for the colors for my build from a picture of a Monsoon I saw on the Glen-L site. I left out the beige or 'cream' color that would go with the green. This is from the Glen-L site... (what a pretty build)

Re: When real boats plowed the waters.

Beautiful, I love the old boats. In fact, the green color on the top of one of them is the color I've chosen for the sides of my own. Thanks for the link.

Re: Tape, or no tape

I think wear and tear is a big thought for me since it's such a large boat and I know the waters she'll be floating in. Reading the thoughts in here, I may be going overboard with the extra tape. On the other hand, I also know I'll be in waters known for it's debris and rocks so I thought it wise. N...

Re: Tape, or no tape

I can't take credit for the frames. They were the last set that Alan (from Glen-L) built for the VC. I was lucky to get them and he was kind enough to even autograph them. The house is south of Maryville, Tn if that gives you and area.

Re: Tape, or no tape

No pics yet. We moved, I had to take it down (do not ever DO that if you can help it) and then started to set it all up again in the new shop. About that time I got the honey-do list for the new house.... The last shot was a dry run in the shop itself... http://home.comcast.net/~cecallred/boa...

Re: Tape, or no tape

Very nice. Did you stain the frames or is that color from encapsulation?

I had not looked at your pics since you first posted the electricals. I notice you used extra side battens (stringers). I don't recall them from my plans. Did I miss something or are they an addition you made?

Re: Tape, or no tape

Ken, did you have to tape the lower section of the stern to sharpen it along the transom?

Re: Tape, or no tape

I'm also building the Vera Cruise. I plan on taping all of the seams when the time comes. Especially the keel. Since beaching will be done from time to time, the stem will be getting an extra layering. Do you have pictures of your build yet?

Re: Interior Paint

Just my own thoughts here, but white paint in the bilge area shows defects and mold and such more easily than darker colors. Inspections of those areas will show things like cracks and bubbles faster and sooner than a dark color would allow.

Re: Setting the breasthook height.

Can you post a picture of what you're seeing? Maybe a drawing if not? There can be many reasons why it doesn't align as it should or it may be that it's fine and you're getting a visual that doesn't look right at this time but will be fine.

Except for the cost to purchase, I'd love to have one for weekend jaunts in the big lakes around here...
