Re: White Oak for Belle Isle

I used white oak for all my framing. It's all quarter sawn. I never had any bonding issues. Also, I never found it difficult to work with. And the quarter sawn boards have been remarkably stable.

Re: Modern Hard Top? Any body build one yet

I would think sawn or laminated frames to make a nice curve to shed water. 1/2 plywood on top. Trim it on the outside with some mahog.? The Question would be how to support it all. Stainless poles or wood struts somehow.

Re: Modern Hard Top? Any body build one yet

Off hand I don't think there is but I have some ideas on how to build one. Are you going to walk around on top of it? Or just for shade?

Re: Is this why Inboards are pigs ??

Ken, I think you have the right train of thought. It's just easier for manufacturers to bolt on an outboard(s) than to do the work to get an inboard "right".

Re: Increasing hull depth

In the Geronimo, I don't think I've ever had water come up into the splash well. It is a 20 inch transom. It has tons of freeboard. There are other boats like the Celerity (which has a deep vee hull) that would be great for rougher water as well. However I totally understand why some would prefer th...

Re: Increasing hull depth

You'll be uncomfortable long before you are unsafe in a zip. I think that is the case for most of these boats. The bigger and heavier the boat, the rougher the water you will be comfortable in. You can always cruise around at displacement speed.

Good call. I think it's cool that it ties into the bumper but it looks like you have plenty to work with and trim to shape.

There might be a few of us that have trouble sticking to that 20mph. I might have a malfunctioning speedometer.

You don't have to have a boat to come. There will be plenty of rides.

Re: Building The Vera Cruise

Every fish finder or depth sounder that I have installed has wanted its own dedicated circuit directly to the battery (with an inline fuse instead of going through the fuse block). So you may want to plan ahead for that as well.
