Free Thompson 14 Footer to a Good Home

A local friend has a classic Thompson boat and will give it to someone who'll restore it to it's previous glory. Below is the info from him. I'll post some pictures of the boat as soon as I'm able to get some. Not liking to admit that age has caught up with me, but reality is that I now face that as...

Re: Who is coming and where?

Melanie and I plan to come at least for a day but hopefully more. Not sure where we'll stay; we'll figure it out. We expect to move to Jasper, TN in September and so we'll be somewhat local. Even though we'll be living right by the old Hales Bar Gathering sight I'm still glad that it has been moved....

Re: Electric Longboard - Practicing Techniques!

Wow, 30 mph on this thing would be scary!

I really like this idea and want to look into it further in a year or so when I have more time. This old fat boy would need a wider platform, a handlebar to hang onto, and bigger wheels; but, only 20 mph would be all the speed I'd need.

Thanks for sharing.

Re: 6/4 rough cut lumber for nominal 1" thickness

I think 5/8" is too thin for the frames. I think most of us generally buy 4/4 lumber and end up with 3/4 to 7/8 inch after planing/sanding. If you cut out 3/4" I think there's quite a few options for the remaining 1/2 inch scrap. A few that come to mind is using them for planking, seating surfaces, ...

Re: Type of wood & encapsulation

All the classic boat owners now are going back with the Don Danenburg recommended 5200 bottom and having excellent results. I sure hope so anyway since that's what I did with my boat (while constructing it). Tough to say whether the double planked 5200 bottom is as good or better than cold molding. ...

Re: G15 River Run

The poker run sounds like a great idea and we could have the places we stop promote it so we might bring in outside interest to wooden boat building.

Matt, it's going to be able go quite a bit faster than 42. Let's go ahead and start a betting pool on the top speed. I'll take 52 mph.

Re: G15 Dates and Location

We're definitely coming! We've not reserved a spot yet because we just bought property in Jasper, TN to build our retirement home; so, we may be living there by then and will just commute over. In any event, we plan to attend. BTW, even though Jasper is only about 15 minutes away from Hales Bar and ...

Re: G14 pics

Hey, we checked into our hotel in downtown Chattanooga and went to a fantastic restaurant that you would not think of or even notice as a being a restaurant. It's Puckett's Grocery right next to the Aquarium. There's the grocery store but on one end with its own entrance is the restaurant and bar. W...

Damn it, Tom!

First of all, YOU ARE THE MAN.

Second, now I feel so inadequate because I'm not bringing a cajun dish.

Thank you sir for setting the standard. I'll try to live up to it going forward.

Re: G-15 Alternative Location

It looks pretty nice Ken. I expect Neel or Bill could best answer this, but, what's the risk of trying a different spot. I mean, if we didn't like it couldn't we always return to Hales Bar, or would that bridge be burnt?
