Re: Key Largo Build in Charleston

Try Vetus Marine in Florida. That is where I got my replacement flappers.

Re: Key Largo Build in Charleston

I will say my exhaust system slopes up all the way to the headers and I have baffles in the mufflers that probably prevent water from surging into the engine. A straighter exhaust system without any baffles should probably use flappers. There are some metal and rubber ones out there that you might b...

Re: Key Largo Build in Charleston

I have the Vetus exhaust tips on the Torpedo. I lost one flapper the first season, I think at the Gathering in 2015. I ordered two replacements but quickly lost another. I haven't had them on in 6 years and haven't had any problems. While I like the design of the tips, the flappers are poorly design...

Re: Lee's Monaco utility build

On the Zip above the water line I used filler stain, Pettit sealer, and Epifanes varnish. Some varnishes react weird on epoxy and won't dry. I had problems with System Three resin under
Epifanes varnish. Experiment on scrap with whatever you use.

Re: Torpedo Cleats, where to get?

Do a Google search for torpedo cleats. There are many examples of either antique or new. Perko makes them and are available from a variety of vendors. Probably a 3-4" cleat would suffice for mooring, just make sure that you anchor them with long screws into shears or heavy blocking. I used larger li...
