Beautiful boat, great job you should be very proud. The Zip is a great build and you have done a outstanding job on yours. I really like your interior layout also the fit and finish everywhere looks amazing. A+ :D

Re: new guy : zip boat

You guys are making me feel old at 34  ! No age restrictions here just a passion for fine woodworking and the love of wooden boats needed. I built the zip and put a 50hp 205lbs on it, I think this is really pushing the limits for motor size (be sure to reinforce the transom). The boat does hand...

Re: Another Zip on the water

vupilot, it's a 50hp 2 stroke 204 lbs. The windshield brackets were a great local find (kijiji). They were on a old boat and the seller was kind enough to take them off and sell them to me for $150.00, I think this was the best deal I found on the whole project!

Another Zip on the water

One more Zip is floating! Thanks for all the great advice the build could not have went smoother thanks to this site. I did not get great photos this year but I will take more when I finish the bench seats, maybe even some video. The launch was perfect the boat handled beautifully, I was able to rea...

Re: Where to start...

Iggy, Nice to see another Edmontonian on the site. I think your pick is a great choice, the Malahini is a good looking boat. I have just finished the Zip and the boat exceeded all my expectations, Glen-l plans were excellent to use. If I can offer any help along the way or If you just need someone t...

Re: Expectations?!?

Fred5150, I put my zip in the water on the weekend the 50hp was fine. What a great design the boat handled beautifully. I have to admit I did not expect the boat to feel as safe and responsive as it did. I will get some video and pictures posted in the launching ramp section soon. Good luck with you...

Re: Expectations?!?

Fred5150, I am also building the Zip with a 50 hp mercury 2 stroke (204 lbs). I asked the same question and had good response from the guys on this site. I don't have my zip in the water yet but I think it will be fine. I did add the splash well and extra gussets at the transom, I think this is enou...

Re: Regular exterior grade 3/4 plywood for my breasthook ?

I would say if you are second guessing already stick with marine grade ply. In a few months from now the price difference from marine to standard ply will be minimal as compared to total cost. Marine grade plywood uses marine quality glue this is what you want for a boat. I am building the zip as we...

windshield bracket

I am curious if any one has seen a center post windshield bracket with a hole in the top. It looks to be a mount for something maybe a flag pole, light, fuzzy dice? It would be great if someone could let me know what it's for.

I did use butt joints and joined them after the aft portion of ply was installed on the frame. What I did do was cut a clamping block the same shape as the curve in this location (used the frame as a template for this). When installing the butt block on the aft side this curved clamping block keeps ...

Buckeye from what I see it does not look like you will need my advice. Looks like your build is coming along great, very nice job. ( I had some trouble with the bottom sheet fitting as well, boiling water and towels helped alot to get the plywood to bend for the dry fitting)

Thanks for the comments, I would love to make it to the gathering from what I see they look to be a real blast, I just don't think I can convince the family to make the 5000 mile trip. (I will try to work on them)
