Re: Travels and Adventures of "Curt's Dream" a True Grit design-The Great Loop

Curt,
Your travelogue has been fascinating. Thanks for all of your posts.

The timing of this is a bit late perhaps to mesh with your plans, but as of August 9, the Canadian border will be open to fully vaccinated Americans with proof of a negative Covid test within 72 hours of arrival.

Welcome to the forum, Ahmed. There are plenty of barrel back builders, so lots of help available if you have questions.

Best of luck with your build.

Re: Malahini Transom dimensions

Motor well looks good! If you are planning to upholster your seats, then the appearance of the plywood you use is arguably less important. You could consider using exterior grade ply. That would be cheaper than marine grade, while still giving you material that's put together with waterproof adhesiv...

Re: Lee's Monaco utility build

Lee, You had me intrigued. It took a bit of digging to find a reference, but that symbol shown beneath station 4 is the symbol for the midships perpendicular. It's defined as "a vertical line intersecting the ship's centerline, half the distance between the forward perpendicular and the aft perpendi...

Steve,
I agree with Ken. It would be great to hear more details about how you made the wood windshield brackets.

Great looking boat!

Re: Neel's Palm Beach 22 build

Thanks for the perspective Neel.

Rosemary and I are still undecided about the Gathering this year. We likely won't decide until we get closer to the date, and would plan to stay in a nearby hotel.

Re: Neel's Palm Beach 22 build

Greetings Neel.

Could you please say more about why you don't use epoxy when finishing above the water line?

Thanks.

Re: Looking for tips on mating Riviera bow bottom planks with side planks

David, I begin with a caveat: I've not planked the hull of a cold molded boat. That said, I am fairly certain that what you need to do is make a transition joint with your final layer of planking in the bow area, just as you would if you build used plywood panels. If you have Boat Building with Plyw...

Thomas, you have been doing such fine work on your build. Thanks for sharing the progress with us.

I agree with Matt, the transom looks fabulous. Could you tell us please which one of the Lockwood dyes it was that you used?

Re: Ian's TNT Build

Ian, A thought for you as you try to decide whether or not to paint the wood between the battens of your boat. I don’t remember what kind of plywood you used, and I can’t tell for sure from the pictures. Anyway, I used Okoume for my boat and finished the interior with epoxy and varnish (i.e. no pain...

Re: Fiberglass is too expensive for my IMP, can I use epoxy and varnish to show the wood?

What Jim says is right, on the IMP, the fiber glass is for abrasion resistance. The design does not call for reinforcing the seams with glass. You will want to encapsulate the boat with epoxy to seal the wood. When I built my IMP, I glassed the bottom and about 2 inches up the sides, but no further....
