Re: Brendons Zip Build

A late congratulations Brendon. I'm glad you got the trim worked out. As for crossing the pacific, well there are some pretty nice world class sailing cruiser plans available! :D :D Thanks Carl, Im sure I could just add an extra level to the zip. thats probably all it needs to make it across. :D

Re: Brendons Zip Build

I took Whio for a trip on a lake over the weekend. The new wedge/spacer on the motor really makes a big difference. The boat now handles beautifully and I can trim the motor to suit the conditions. Previously it ran a bit nose up at low speeds and it was porpoising a little in choppy conditions as a...

Re: Brendons Zip Build

Thanks for the comments everyone. Roberta, it might be a bit more of a trip across the Pacific than the Zip can handle to make it to the Gathering  . I would have loved to come however. The boat is going great so far, I am taking it into the boat shop to add some spacer/wedges to the transom so...

Re: Brendons Zip Build

The launch was successful! I had a small ceremony at a local boat ramp and poured some champagne (both on the boat and in our mouths) and did a couple of victory laps. Im taking it out to a local lake this weekend to really have a play with it. I would like to thank everyone on this forum for being ...

Re: Brendons Zip Build

Wow the boat looks great in the sunlight! The color looks like a deep purple, very cool contrast to theighter decking. And the seats are really nice as well! Is this stretched at all? Or built to plans? This is built to the plans. The only modification I made was to make the front two frames slight...

Re: Brendons Zip Build

Still caulking... I need to get two more tubes of sealant today so i can finish it off.
That will make it 6 tubes total with probably half a tube left over that I will use when mounting the cutwater and deck hardware.

Re: Brendons Zip Build

Your Captain looks ready at the helm! I havent seen any of the long shaft motors get the steering cable through the motor well, they all appear to use a deck exit that I have seen. Really nice build. Good find on the windshield brackets! Yes my daughter is quite excited about the boat and likes to ...

Re: Brendons Zip Build

I am also working on the cutwater, I created a template and worked with an engineer I know to cut and weld it together. We tack welded it on the boat and then took it off to complete the weld. Mostly it was just fusing the stainless together and not much rod needed. I just completed cleaning it up a...

Re: Brendons Zip Build

My boat launch is scheduled for next weekend! Its been a long time coming and im pretty pumped. I have the boat on the trailer and motor mounted. I ended up running the steering cable up through the deck as the turn was too tight coming out through the motor well with all the rest of the cables. IMG...

Re: Brendons Zip Build

I have finished applying the polyurethane 10 coats all up the final three I sprayed. I sanded back flat between coats 3 and 7. I found spraying gave a much better finish than rolling and tipping. Here is a picture of the motor well now its finished with the drain tubes installed. 20201207_090118.jpg...
