Re: White Oak for Belle Isle

I used white oak for the frames on my Tahoe. It is a little stronger and a little heavier. The boat is design strong enough (although designs are never too strong, only too weak :D ) without the oak. Tool hardening of the oak can be an issue so I scuff sanded with 80 grit after milling. Oils in the ...

Re: Tom's Tahoe

Jim and Matt, Thanks for the kind words. Today was going to be a full day...but...the prop didn't come in so no sea trials. The repair parts for the trailer didn't come in either so the trailer isn't ready to go very far. On the plus side, the trailer bunks got adjusted and the boat sits nicely on t...

Re: Tom's Tahoe

Thanks Bluesman and Matt. It turned out OK for a first try. There are a number of areas yet to be detailed and top stitching would have helped but the skill level isn't there. Thanks Bryan, I used 1/2" plywood for almost everything. The vertical panels are 1/2" with reinforcement on the edges. Tops ...

Re: Tom's Tahoe

I will have to remove the ceiling panels, arm rest and front seats to gain access for the windshield install. When's that?...dunno With a prop due at the end of the week seemed like a good idea to test fit the seats. IMG_0776.jpeg Footrests will cover the hole where the sole meets the bulkhead. The ...

Re: Tom's Tahoe

A narrow bench goes across the boat at the back of the engine covering the muffler and water strainer. A jump seat mounted to the front of the engine cover.
IMG_0774.jpeg
It's a lot easier moving for an aft with the jump seat up.

Re: Tom's Tahoe

The straps hang below the seat back with a loop to aid pulling the strap off the velcro. IMG_0767.jpeg The seat bottom pushes against the straps to help kept the hook and loop stuff together. And the seat back holds the back edge of the seat bottom down. A couple of latches hold the front of the sea...

Re: Tom's Tahoe

The rear seat needs to be removable, battery, fuel filter and shutoff valve, and the cooling water cock are all hidden behind the seat. I don't want the seat back screws down and I don't want it going over the side to become a "hazard to navigation." This is what I came up with...your results may va...

Re: Tom's Tahoe

Thanks Everyone, The battery is located below the rear seat. IMG_0766.jpeg Most power goes through the fuse mounted on the stringer and switch mounted on the front of the seat. The cable leading to the engine is mounted to the back of the front of the seat. The horn, nav lights, and bilge pumps don'...

Re: Tom's Tahoe

Thanks for the comments on the tach. The tach didn't move off the dead peg...It is mounted close close to a dash support. I left the wire connections loose so I could move wires to avoid the support. Today I tightened the ground and signal wires  ...Still nothing! Went on line and looked up a ...

Re: Tom's Tahoe

Thanks for the concern Alan, There's been a lot going on for the last 6 months. Life definitely got in the way of finishing the boat. I finished up the electrical and put a battery in the boat yesterday. The horn works, so I hooked the hose to the boat today and fire up the engine for the first time...

Re: Tom's Tahoe

Roberta, It is only a question of when the parts come in. We put the disk and tire back on (running with three disk brakes) and the trailer tracked fine. First impression is good. We're scheduled to adjust the bunks, replace the brake, and water test next Friday. Looking forward to getting on the wa...

Re: Tom's Tahoe

Thanks Bill, I DID drop it today... The trailer seemed to pull a little funny, surge brakes??, maybe. I took the boat over to the guy that sold me the trailer to talk about a prop and their help with sea trials. They called me after I left to turn me around "come back, one of the tires is locked up"...

The door to the shop is closed.

Boat on the trailer feels a lot like flip day. Sea trials are tentatively scheduled for Friday June 11th.

Re: Tom's Tahoe

IMG_0743.jpeg
There is a point of no return. On the trailer and in the shop, can't go forward, can't go back.
IMG_0741.jpeg
Thankfully, looks like there's all kinds of room.
IMG_0745.jpeg
Almost out. Lot of stress bleeding off.
