Re: Marine survey for boat insurance

Since I made this original post I made a lot of inquiries to insurance companies. I was trying to find insurance that didn't require a marine survey. The real shocker was that Geico, All State and Hagerty wouldn't insure a homemade boat period. I feel fortunate that State Farm will do it with a mari...

Marine survey for boat insurance

I attended the gathering at Hales Barr this past weekend and enjoyed it thoroughly. We met a lot of nice people and saw some amazing boats. I did however forget to ask a pertinent question that is of particular importance presently. I have gotten every sticker, tag, license and document that the sta...

Re: Barrelback 19 planing

I understand. The prop I got on EBay was the only 10x11 that I saw. I am about to run out of summer to work this planning problem out. Oh well I'll keep looking. Thanks for the help.

Re: Barrelback 19 planing

It's one to one no matter which direction correct? Just have to not forget about which way to shift. The prop I started with is a left hand.

Re: Barrelback 19 planing

I attached a photo of the questionable prop. It measures eight inches from blade tip to center of the bore. The other images are of the finished boat and the initial motor installation.

Re: Barrelback 19 planing

The listing on EBay for the propeller is 283567365721. Listed as "Ellis bronze three blade RH propeller 10x11 with 1" shaft". The prop in the picture is the one that I received. It has the magic marker writing on it. I just figured it was mislabeled at the manufacturer.

Re: Barrelback 19 planing

In response to the comments made over the last couple of weeks.....The motor is 2.5 liter. Don't have any pictures on my tablet but will download some to show how the motor is mounted. Anyhow the reason I am back on the forum is that I found a 10x11 no cup prop from a salvage dealer on EBay. I recei...

Re: Barrelback 19 planing

Thanks for the responses to my issue. I didn't mention that my output transmission ratio is 1:1. The consensus opinion seems to be a smaller prop with no cup. I don't know where I could borrow one but I'll hit the shops tomorrow and see what I can find.

Barrelback 19 planing

Just finished my Barrelback 19 and am in the process of dealing with issues. I have a Mercruiser 120 HP motor and looked online for performance expectations. It appears that the optimum performance would be 35 mph @ 4000 rpm. I am getting 18 mph @ 2000 rpm. The prop is 12 x 13 CUP. Not coming up on ...

Re: Water pickup for 120 Mercruiser

I looked at the links provided in your posts and I see what you mean. My motor is already mounted and I am cramped for space in the front of the motor. I ordered a pulley from McMaster-Carr and will double up pulleys on the alternator. Thanks

Re: Water pickup for 120 Mercruiser

It is a conversion to inboard. I had read in the manual that the original raw water was provided via pump in the outboard unit. Which I don't use. Yesterday I went to a marina and talked to a mechanic. He showed me a Volvo 3.0 raw water pump and said it could be adapted by putting a double pulley on...

Re: Water pickup for 120 Mercruiser

Thanks. Sound advice. The reason I picked the electric pump was my lack of success in finding a motor mounted unit. I'll keep looking.

Water pickup for 120 Mercruiser

I mounted my motor in a Barrelback19. What pump do you suggest to pickup water to supply motor cooling. I am considering a diaphragm live well pump. 5gpm. May not need that much but I really don't know what the usage is.

Greetings from Abingdon, VA I am building a Barrel Back 19. This is beginning the fifth year on this project. Have drive components installed and am in the throws of roughing in the wiring. The motor that I have installed is an old Mercruiser 120hp 4 cylinder. I found a manual for this and it is in ...
