Re: Help needed !
Both the top and bottom are cut to the same size, only the bottom piece will have the notch. The sides are angled. I know with the Malahini the angle is specified. I don't know if it is with the barrelback. I made my two pieces, attached them together and cut the angle with a table saw. Watch where...

Re: Space Coast Barrelback
OK, the frame to stringer blocking; epoxied and bolted or just bolted?

Re: Space Coast Barrelback
Well, after test fitting, I remeasured the spacing and determined that frame 7 needed to go further forward to butt the timber against the rear face of the stem notch. The image in the frame plans is misleading. The two side frames need to be vertical the full length at the stem notch. This gets me ...

Re: Space Coast Barrelback
So, I added a small wedge of Mahogany in front of the timber to fill the triangular gap there, drove two screws through the wedge from the aft timber side into the vertical cut surface of the stem and also two at an upward angle from the forward side, into the stem. Now that I am looking at the cros...

Re: Space Coast Barrelback
I see what you are saying, though. I kind of like an additional support there bolted rather than just screwed. Might examine that option.

Re: Space Coast Barrelback
Not quite. BB frame 7 does not tie to the motor stringers. It sort of floats off the stem. I'd post a pic, but I keep getting denied on starting a gallery.

Re: Space Coast Barrelback
What's the best approach for attaching Frame 7 to the stem? Four screws, as stated. Two from rear face of timber into stem plus one each per side frame into stem at an angle??

Re: Florida Barrelback
OK, I thought I have seen others that do. Is there enough to support the plywood without?

Re: Florida Barrelback
Shouldn't the bottom battens come all the way to the stem??

Re: Virginia Barrel
Ok so I figured the best way for me to get the extra gusset out without destroying the frame was to simply cut them out and then when I encapsulate them the epoxy will fill in the scars. Again, sorry for coming in late on this. There was a simpler solution. It wouldn't have mattered to have the ext...

Re: Virginia Barrel
I agree too, this looks correct. Camber boards secure to the flat plywood surface and the chine, sheer, battens and keel secure to the hardwood frame doubler. Matt B Sorry coming into this late, but I disagree with what he has. The plywood of the transom should be in contact with the vertical uprig...
