Re: Hello From Clearwater, FL
I have about 2/3 of the battens installed and have started some rough fairing. I started the project mid April. Not traveling for work has made it go much faster than originally anticipated.

Re: Hello From Clearwater, FL
Hi Will, I'm in Wesley Chapel, building a Barrelback. I'm more questions than answers at the moment since this is my first big boat but I may be able to help with things like lumber sources. Craftsman Supply in Ybor City is going to be closer to you but the pickings have been pretty slim as of late....

Re: Florida Barrelback
Thanks guys. I’m currently sitting in my thinking chair and sorting it out.
I think my problem was the angle of approach of the bottom batten so I added a little lamination and things seem to be working now.

Re: Florida Barrelback
I got tired of cutting notches for battens so I started rough fairing the port side. I'm feeling pretty good up to frame 7 then things start getting a little dicey. I'm really struggling with the transition from the sheer to the first batten at the stem and every picture I can find of a faired boat ...

Re: Transferring plans to plywood
Just a guess but... The plans aren't laying completely flat. It looks like the fold and curve at the top of your picture could account for the majority of that 1/4".

Re: 20ft Texas Barrel
I put a mini-split in my garage. All you need is about a 1” hole in the wall.
It will keep it below 80° even without insulation on the garage doors.- Sun Sep 06, 2020 4:51 am

Re: Florida Barrelback
I ended up making a PVC steam box and repurposed my wife’s old clothes steamer. It worked great. It was 97° in Florida yesterday so I didn’t lose much heat from the box to the boat. I now have the side battens in place on the port side. I’ll be working on the top battens today. Then on to the starbo...

Re: Florida Barrelback
Well I had my first broken batten today. Took Friday off to make a 4 day boat building weekend and started off like this: D0BB7309-B419-4240-948F-5E7B8A032B4F.jpeg I’m starting to see all the imperfections and wonder how this is going to end up. Then I go look at the curves of the barrel back and st...

Re: Is Poly Grip adhesive >= Rescorcinol glue
Proxy-Grip is amazing! No mixing in fillers or thickeners. I’m almost through my first gallon and joints that shouldn’t stick without a fastener are stuck tight enough to move the whole boat. Having done the thickened epoxy approach on a kayak I built a few years ago, this stuff is a god send!!!

Re: Seattle Barrelback progress
Robert, I’ve been following your build for a while. Your attention to detail and authenticity is amazing and inspiring! As I break my first batten and throw my first piece of wood across the garage, threads like this give me the inspiration to push on! Thanks for sharing!!!

Re: Facebook
I saw in the news this morning that you can transfer all of your photos and videos to Google photos, dropbox or koofr (no idea what this is). Old pictures that I've lost was my main reason (excuse) for keeping facebook. Now all I have is my morbid curiosity for how messed up the world is. If you wan...
