Re: Building The Vera Cruise

I like the idea of left to right. I've already broken my drawings into sections but ghey still need some clean up. Tis is a good suggestion. Thanks.

Re: Building The Vera Cruise

Not much to report other than I am continuing to varnish and sand, varnish and sand...........................................ad nauseum! Helm station, starboard cabin wall interior, are completed. Fuel tank façade cover, port cabin interior and other smaller bits in process. I'll be starting on the...

Re: Another Vera Cruise build

Man oh man does that look familiar!! :)

My design was similar. Not an easy area to work in either, even with the pads for the knees.

Re: Building The Vera Cruise

Again, thanks everyone for the feedback. I actually have been going over and over this for several years, gradually improving my understanding and getting the wiring diagrams drawn. Yes, I do have wiring diagrams. I started off with a set purchased from Glen L and then have been adapting them to my ...

Re: New Boat Owner - Restoration of a DIY Cabin Skiff

Welcome Captain E,

Cool project. Restoration is just as valid as building. Looking forward to seeing more as you move forward on the boat.

The Extra Shelf In The Garage

Something I saw mentioned by Neel Thompson. "The Extra Shelf In The Garage". He was talking about about the unflipped hulls but I think it might also apply to flipped boats.

Here's my entry.

Re: Building The Vera Cruise

Thanks for the response Matt. What you've stated about the house circuits is pretty much how I understand it. I'm not particularly worried about that circuit except the part going from the battery to the selector switch. This is because of the possibility at some point that I will have to use the ho...

Re: Building The Vera Cruise

First off thanks for the help guys. It is much appreciated. I decided to spend some time in my various electrical books to get refreshed on this subject. I read these a few years ago but at the time, I was no where near ready to start and the eyes glazed over numerous times. With it now getting clos...

Re: Building The Vera Cruise

Kens, it's very possible that the wiring diagram I've purchased (which was intended for 23 foot boats) is sizing to be cautious. This is the probelm when trying to do something that you have limited experience in. Trying to wade through all the information and determine just what is the correct answ...

Re: Building The Vera Cruise

Thanks Jim, I appreciate the details. I am not an electrician only having a basic understanding . But I do want to understand what I am putting together and make sure that it is correct. I am willing to take the time to do this which is why I am asking now. It makes sense that the distribution panel...

Re: Building The Vera Cruise

Kens, thanks for responding. I don't have an answer for that. I can only relate what I have learned so far. If a lighter gauge cable can be used for the house circuit, I am certainly open to that as long as it is not going to be any problem.

Re: Building The Vera Cruise

Jim, thanks. See my previous post which I was posting when you posted. So lighter gauge for the house circuit is okay?

Re: Building The Vera Cruise

Okay, I guess that I need to think this battery cable planning through a little more carefully. Yesterday I stated that the run was 15 feet (approximately). But it's not that simple. So for starters, the batteries (house and engine start) are both located in the port aft corner of the boat in the lo...

I don't know, Carl! You may not want to take this Beauty out in the cruel world. WOW! Roberta :D :D :D :D :D Wow, that's very nice praise from a craftswoman such as yourself Roberta, thanks. Thanks Matt and Matt for the kind words and responses. Rough or not, there is no way this boat isn't going t...

Re: Building The Vera Cruise

Tung oil is amazing stuff. It's transformed the helm station and I haven't even applied any varnish yet. And just to be clear the two plywood areas (side wall and top of platform) will be getting different finishes. I'm really pleased with the way this is coming out, although all this sanding and va...
