Can't make it this year
Hey folks, time and unforseen occurences will prevent me from attending the '17 Gathering. :( I reserved the cabin right there in the corner of the dock that is the closest to the parking lot. I'm going to have to give that cabin up and so, if anyone wants it, I want to let you know that it will be ...

Cruise through the photos on Van Dam Boat's Facebook page. They laminate all their stringers and if it's good enough for them....

I'm not sure I believe that. I think it's an act because Lauren just likes to be chauffered.Bill Edmundson wrote:But, Lauren can't drive a boat.

Re: top of deck
If you are willing to dig around on this forum, you can find a treasure trove of options but I can put them in a nutshell. Bruce Dow used a recipe he got from some antique boat guys that wanted to restore their original boats to as close to original as possible. He and I were talking about this and,...

I would hate to be the one who says YES and then this causes you a lot of work. So, let's put it this way: If you decide to edit and put everything up on a vlog or on YouTube, I will most certainly be viewing it all with great interest.

Re: Steam bending mahogany
Ok, remember...
steamed wood cells cannot stretch even when they are super heated like that. They can ONLY compress.

Re: Steam bending mahogany
How long are you leaving the boards in your steam box? Approximately one hour per one inch of thickness I believe is about right. This is an edit. I somehow skipped past that the first time I read it where you said about an hour. Also, as far as tempurature goes, if there's steam going into the box ...

Re: Anyone know what a Leslie speaker is? Please read this to the end
When you look at the louver picture above, you have to remember that on the inside, there's a mirror image of the outside louver ...if that makes sense... Yes, it does make sense. I think the mirrored louvre on the inside is actually turned upside down in relation to the outside louvre. When I had ...

Re: Hello from Nashville TN
Welcome to the forum. We are always glad to meet new enthusiasts. If you look at my location, you'll notice that is says Nashville but I actually live in Clarksville these days and I have just never updated my profile. I've been building a Zip with a 40hp Evinrude Big Twin. The project has stagnated...

Re: Anyone know what a Leslie speaker is? Please read this to the end
They would make great boat louvers. Had you ever thought of that before? Two of my Leslies were daisy chained together with the 6-pin cable going from the wedge shaped preamp to the first Leslie. Then I had this junction box that allowed a second 6-pin cable to go to the other Leslie. The footswitc...

Re: Right boat for the Potomac River
Say... You're right!
You see? That's the problem with the Gatherings. We get to ride in so many different boats that we lose track of them. And all this time, I've been thinking that this was your boat. I'm really embarrassed.

Re: Right boat for the Potomac River
Dave, do you really think the cold molded runabouts ride that much smoother? The reverse curvature possible with that kind of construction certainly helps give a finer entry and perhaps a drier ride but they are still often flat bottomed or nearly flat bottomed at the transom. It isn't just the fin...

Billy, I've been studying your photo of that machine. I can't really see how it is supposed to work. Does the foot pedal make the cutter go up and down?
Having you help me with this would certainly be a good excuse to take a trip to New Hampshire.
Is is snowing up there right now?

Re: Anyone know what a Leslie speaker is? Please read this to the end
WOW! I had completely forgotten about Jimmy Smith. MAN, I LOVE his version of Stormy Monday Blues. That's some REAL bluesy Hammond Organ/Leslie music! So Hoodman, you think that this would look good on a motor box? I'm thinking that these louvres would need to be made back to back from two separate ...

Anyone know what a Leslie speaker is?
If you do not, don’t worry. Not very many people do know about these things. I know about them because I’ve owned four of these in the past. But for the uninitiated, here’s a quick description and some photos: The Leslie is a combination amplifier and speaker system that is designed for musical inst...
