Thank you Bryan. It was interesting :) but actually went pretty well.

Re: Lee's Monaco utility build

The hole for the rudder is now done. I had to fine tune the routed recess but it fits well. I leveled the drill guide with wedges and tacked it down with composite nails. It worked pretty well for the smaller notch hole and the bigger one. Another step done...

Re: Lee's Monaco utility build

Neel/Roberta,

Thank you. It is a little scary routing/drilling the bottom of the boat. However, I am glad to get started on this instead of just thinking (stressing) about it :)

Re: Question about Huck Finn

My parents have a 20 foot modern pontoon with a 40hp motor and that seems like a decent match. A 15hp or 20hp on 24 foot Huck Finn with an 8 foot cabin seems a little small. My two cents...

Re: Lee's Monaco utility build

Nick, Thank you.

I finally routed the area in preparation to drill the hole for the rudder. Here is the template that I used for my router. It is made out of 18mm ply. I used wedges to level it and tacked it down with composite nails.

Re: Neel's Palm Beach 22 build

Neel,

Sorry about the strut delay. Your flipping setup looks good. I am interested to see how it works.

Re: Lee's Monaco utility build

Neel, Thank you. Besides working on the stem cap and doing more sanding, I am about done figuring out the locations for rudder, strut, and prop shaft hole. My next step is going to be to drill the rudder hole and route out the recess for it. Once I do that, the strut will be next and then the prop s...

Re: Lee's Monaco utility build

I finished the stem cap. Here are a few pictures of the process. Three lams of 4mm solid lumber were used.

Re: Lee's Monaco utility build

Ken/Roberta, Thank you for the comments. I think I understand what I should do now. I will try to locate the strut and prop shaft hole per the plans but in reference to the transom and not the frame locations since I stretched the boat a little. However, I will double check everying in my 3D compute...

Re: Lee's Monaco utility build

Ken, I guess I need to clarify my comments. I originally started with trying to have the prop shaft intersect the bottom relative to frame two as called out in the plans. However with the stretch, that positioned my strut too far forward. The strut location is not specified but I measured on the dra...

Re: Lee's Monaco utility build

Barry, thank you for the info. Now it makes sense why it was near frame four :) Ken, that was the info I needed so thank you. I wasn't sure if I should move the drivetrain to meet the rudder or not since the plans only call out the location of where the prop shaft intersects the bottom relative to f...

Re: Riviera Hull Finish

I used Silvertip for almost all of my planking because of the long working time. I used it for glassing the TNT I built about 10 years ago and I plan to use it when I glass my Monaco. Non-blush is nice.

Re: Lee's Monaco utility build

Roberta, Thank you. The Monaco plans call out the location of the prop shaft hole location. However, they don't call out the CG location of the motor. Pictures of where I think this should be are shown below. The second picture has a strange symbol (where I am pointing) that looks like it could be s...
