Extra floatation does nothing but add weight. Right up till the time you need it! If you hit something and punch a hole in the hull you will need it.

Red Oak absorbs water like sponge. Then it swells. When it swells the encapsulation breaks off. White oak doesn't do that.

About a tablespoon in a quart is plenty. I do it on cockpit soles(floors) only. Not decks.

I used West or MAS. The samples I made of CPES and regular epoxy didn't show any difference in penetration. The test that Grunion Bros. (West) did showed that while the solvents in CPES did penetrate better, the epoxy didn't penetrate with the solvents.

CPES really stinks, too. :x
