Re: Riviera powered by v12 jaguar

I've always liked the area where the Torque and HP curves intersect. Looks to me as if 5 grand and a 3 blade 12x15 are going to be hard to beat. Jay Leno says, “Horsepower sells cars, torque wins races.” While the principles are the same, a boat experiences significantly greater fluid friction and t...

Re: Waxing philosophical and boat building

Perhaps the most meaningful comment about my boat came from a then 15yr old grandson.
"Paw, you need to put that in the will."

Re: GERONIMO's progress and questions

I started with a router but was concerned with the lightning speed that it can do great damage. I ended up sanding the overhang down, starting with a 7" disc sander (careful with this) and finishing up with the random orbit palm sander.

Happy memories.....
Saving up to take a bicycle ride to the hobby shop on Saturday to buy a can of Testors glo-fuel. My hands still smell of castor oil, methanol and nitromethane!

Neato! Looks like these would solve a lot of fitting problems.

Is it possible the "drain" is coming from the alternator? The "hot" engine wiring is suspect to me.

Re: I'm a Boat Builder! G-L Ski Tow under construction!

Just to muddy the water for you, here's what I did. Epoxied maple to the mahogany then sawed the 2.25" strips. They are epoxied to the 3mm okume subdecking. Two years in the South Carolina sun and no cracking or discernible movement. I'd say the substrate is the critical factor. Above all it's your ...

DSR, yes you are helping. Some of the ESMs are pretty pricey, but others are reasonable. Lots of thinks to consider...... Roberta, My practical side agrees with you but my wild hairs like the challenge and have the need for speed!!!! If someone were to ask my advice about a project like this, I woul...

Re: Hemi

I'm still "researching" the feasibility of using a gen3 Chrysler hemi as a boat engine. Some of the pros are: Way cool aspect Torque/hp/weight Availability The cons include: Lack of marine exhaust manifolds Complexities of the engine management system I haven't uncovered a "show-stopper" yet. The go...

Hemi

Just sitting around dreaming....... A Hemi powered Torpedo, hmmmm I wonder what it would take to marinize a modern 5.7 Hemi? Anyone know about the compatability of a velvet drive with a TKO or Tremec bolt pattern? Exhaust manifolds would probably have to be fabricated. Just trying to stir thing up a...
