Building cabinets for Drift Boat

Hello every one, I'm here to pick some boat building brains for an easy tip. I am building cabinets for my 16' drift boat and am wondering if there is an easy way too trace the 86" curve for the cabinet without measuring the width every two inches and drafting the width to plywood? Ive thought about...

Re: Drift Boat Inner Sheer Issue.

Yes once the hull is flipped, there will be support frames added via benches and storage. However it is not a stitch and glue boat; it has as you mentioned a hard frame, which the plywood will be attached to with screws. The plans were designed by Ken Hankinson. After years of talking about beginnin...

Re: Drift Boat Inner Sheer Issue.

Inner Sheer is similar to a chine but only on the top... Pictures are of the completed frame with sheers attached with a close up of the successful scarf. Im now preparing the plywood to be attached sometime when I can get a day off!

Re: Drift Boat Inner Sheer Issue.

Thanks everybody! I successfully completed the joint and stretched it to the form. By increasing the length of the joint and decreasing the amount of pressure of the clamps which were starving the joint, I was able to complete a strong and successful joint. I cut the angle at 12 degrees as Lowka53 h...

Re: Drift Boat Inner Sheer Issue.

I read about a ratio in which the scarf must be 3 times the length of the width of the piece to be joined. As a result of this i have made my joint about 5 inches long.

Re: Drift Boat Inner Sheer Issue.

What do you mean by glassing? I have been epoxying the joint and clamping to a bench. I have no previous experience with load bearing scarf joints so if I am missing something, please let me know. I would rather not butt joint just for aesthetics. Any suggestions?

Drift Boat Inner Sheer Issue.

I am currently building a Inner Sheer for the 16' Drifter. I have scarfed the 19' sheers 3 times now and the joint has failed every time. I am using a marine epoxy to glue the joint and am attempting the joint again using high strength wood glue. Before I attempt to stretch the piece to the form tom...

Deciding on Canoe plans.

Hello all. After years of wanting to build a boat, I decided its time to get started! I am trying to decide on which canoe plans would be best for an amateur like me. I am looking into the Huron or Rob Roy. I want something that will be in my capability and budget while still producing a sturdy well...
