I never liked anything hanging down inside. Catch the ladies hair or bang my head.
The Hinges on the outside of Bronze or Stainless, sorta like Large Door hinges were better. (I thought that way anyway)

Re: Encapsulation
Then coat with polyurethane if it is out in the sun.
You just answered another of my life long questions Bill.
Poly on the Boat if it's staying out in the sun.
Thanks.

Re: Encapsulation
When I had Rot in two big Wood boats, in Ketchikan, I phoned "Smith" in California to find out about CPES. It's a thinned Epoxy that will penetrate the wood further than normal Epoxy. So if your Wood is old and Pithy, the CPES will form a platform for the Epoxy to attach to. As well as seeping into ...

Re: Encapsulation
I used almost 5 gallons of CPES on two boats in Ketchikan AK. It worked very well as it seemed to follow the rot. I've always wondered if Wood can be encapsulated successfully. Architects will tell you Fog will move through a building. Ply with Marine glue will eventually Rot/Die and the wood will f...

Re: Grease those wheel bearings!!!!
Another Trailer Failure story. True! 10 of us went on a big 3 day fishing trip to Eastern Washington, Jameson lake. We put 2 boats in my pickup. On the trailer with one large boat, we added two other Smaller boats. On the way over we had to stop in North Bend, and get a fish plate welded into the Ho...

Re: Driftboat double ender
Firs: Where are you located? What Water are you gonna use this boat in? Long ago I (a teenager) helped build 16 of these McKenzie River drift boat Knock-off's. The builder was a guide. He had me Guiding before that summer was over. Life can sure be a good trip sometimes. We built Double enders. On o...

a Short gold tale
Gold came to us from Outer Space as a Shotgun blast. The Earth was still hot then. The Tectonic movements spread the Gold all around. That area known as Western CA came from below the Pacific Sea Bed. It was pushed up where it is now by the pressure from the Pacific plate Sub-ducting the North Ameri...

Re: Lobsterboat Racing
Not all of them are as big as those in the racing vid.
The Lobster and Clam fishermen are in 16-20' boats. At least that's what I recall from other topics.

Re: Lobsterboat Racing
I've always liked the looks of a Lobster boat.
How fast do your racers go?
What engine is most common in the Boats that don't race?
It seems like going slowly would be best among all the Pot Buoys in that area.

Re: Intersting NOVA movie on D-Day
Higgins boats. You can look these boats and the eccentric Higgins up. New Orleans of course. The ARMY bought a few of his boats and discovered the GI's had to jump off the sides, taking a whole minute to unload a boat. Higgins says: "Come back tomorrow..." and he had the Drop down door on the front ...

Intersting NOVA movie on D-Day
The movie is about the Leftover war machines in the ocean off Omaha Beach. But a few seconds of the movie showed two guy slinging Frames into a Keel. What a great setup for Machine like assembly. at the rate those guys worked, they could have Framed the whole 30' boat in a few minutes. I think after...

We are enjoying global warming out here. Instead of using some Gasoline in a Pleasure boat, I'm mowing a big lawn.

Re: Mr John
Lowka that little boat would be just fine with 5.5-6 Hp.
A 9.9 is too heavy as well as almost TOO powerful for that little boat.
My opinions on these issues are based on lot's of terrible mishaps along the lifetime of learning what was the wrong thing to do!

DUKE engine from New Zeland
You can Google this engine and see how it works.
A little like a Wankle in that it does not have Valves.
I sent them a Note wanting more info referencing a possible boat engine.
HP? Size? Weight?
It sure looked 'right' to me.
