Re: Coastal Cruising Question
My opinion here. I lived in Washington state and Alaska most all of my boating life. The thing I missed most about my "big" boats was room around the transom. Those I/O's got in the way. Even now, I like the engine up in the center so the back deck is open for fishing and other forms of Rec, includi...

Re: Stem material substution
I can't answer that question. But....I made a Drift boat which called for a 3" X 3' piece of Oak. By the time I had everything screwed to that piece of Oak, I knew it was the Right choice. Oak will hold a screw pretty good. I got my Oak from a used Pallet board. Find the one you cannot lift by yours...

Re: Overheating
And what is overheating? The boat engine will run at 200 Degrees without hurting, but should run a little less than a Car engine. About 160.
That's why boat engines need to change oil more often.
You need a known-good gauge.

Bill, you can call me if you need someone to watch you move stuff around.
I still have some long PVC pipes that belong to somebody at G-4. Should I bring them to this gathering?
I forgot what they were for, and I still don't know how I wound up with them.
Is anybody missing them?

If you gotta ask..... http://boatbuilders.glen-l.com/mirage-design/?album=190&gallery=906 Looking at those pictures, it looks like a great boat to Week end in. What engine would you put in it? How much Hp did you want to run? In my boats (Like that one) I used Coolers instead of a Fridge. Stuf...

Re: Glen L Driftboat
In my 16th year I built Drift boats most of the spring (after school was out) and into the summer. I think we built 20 or so. Then I spent some of the summer going down some of the Rivers (as the Drift boat commander) in Western Washington. So I can tell you from experience those Drift boats will ta...

Good on ya, from Hammond way down in the swamps. What waters are you going to fish with the Flats? We lived in DeRidder and Lake Charles and she's from Jena LA. We just came back from a Vacation near Jonesville LA. I asked her if she'd move back....Nope! Not without her Chilllerns and Grandchrrens! ...

Re: CDX plywood as top rail?
Think of it this way. The Stuff you use will probably out last your use of that boat!
You put what you want in it and on it.
Next boat you build, you'll know more and it still wont be the last boat you'll build!

Even N'yakkrs are welcome on this site. I'm been ashamed to say it in print, but I have an Aluminum boat too.
Maybe you and I are the only ones?
Try to make the 'gathering', you'll really be well versed after a couple days with all these builders.

Carolia skiff gets swamped and overturns?
http://www.grindtv.com/outdoor/excursions/post/man-swims-five-hours-to-save-family-after-boat-capsizes/ One heckuva feat for this 50 yr old guy. :D Am I confused about a Carolina skiff? Can't they be Bailed pretty easily? I'd heard they are a good rough water boat too. I'd sure like to know more abo...
