Re: 16' Ski Boat Restoration

Test fit of the dash. Used the laser to cut out a 1/4" MDF Template then a router to cut out the holes in the 3/4" Template. I still need to figure out a good way to mount the dash so It can be removed. There is not a lot of room behind the dash so to make it servacable I think it needs to be remova...

Re: 16' Ski Boat Restoration

OOps...I forgot to show the pic of the holes that I had to fill in. I backed them with plywood (used a scribe to transfer the shape) and then filled the rest in with west system epoxy and 403 filler. Same thing was done for the bottom hole.

Re: 16' Ski Boat Restoration

1. Cleaned the epoxy with Interlux YMA601V (odd stuff, I don't know if it was really required...but it was recommended).
2. Scrubbed with a scotch brite pad and then wiped away the YMA601V with water and towels
3. Put on 3 coats of Interlux InterProtect 2000E Epoxy Primer

Re: 16' Ski Boat Restoration

I ended up drilling some holes thru the glass where there was a bubble and injected neat epoxy into the void to remove the air gap.

Re: Ski king engine

In my ski boat (link below) it's sorta like a ski king but it's a fiberglass hull. It has a 327 and a velvet drive but the flywheel is in the front as well.

Re: 16' Ski Boat Restoration

I have glassed the stringer in. The woven roving was not cooperating very nicely over the 1/4" round over and was bubbling up a bit. It not a huge bubble but if this was supposed to be bright then it would have been a total failure. Then again the woven roving is way too thick to try and use for bri...

Re: 16' Ski Boat Restoration

I installed the replacement stringer yesterday. I think that it turned out pretty well. I used West system 105/206 + 406 (and other adhesive fillers when I ran out of 406). The increased open time on the 206 was very nice to work with compared with the 205 that I am used to. I wonder if 5200 would h...

Re: 16' Ski Boat Restoration

I cut some holes in the deck for two 6" inspection hatches. I found another quart of brown water in the port compartment.

Re: 16' Ski Boat Restoration

Stringer Cut and fit! It was the ugliest cutting job with a jigsaw I have ever done but no one will ever see it after it gets glassed up. I pulled it back out and just put on a coat of CPES. It is my first time using it, its more watery and smelly than I thought it would be. I got used to west syste...

Re: Console Skiff Build

Are those T-H Marine hatches? Do you like them? I was looking for some for my boat and was looking at Bomar, T-H Marine, Beckson, Temptress.

What did you use to seal them? Lifeseal, 4200, 4000UV?

Re: TOOLS WE HAVE MADE

Here is one on "Tools I fixed"

Bought this Wilton vice for $10 at a garage sale because the retainer that keeps the screw from screwing out of the jaw was missing.

I designed one and cut it out of HPPE on my CNC; works like a champ!

Re: TOOLS WE HAVE MADE

Here is the CNC Mill that I built following the Joe's 4x4 CNC plans (I think this is a different Joe than the Press).

Also a few things i have made with it.

Re: Wooden Boat Tools

I think the most useful single tool so far in my construction has been a Fein oscillating saw. Similar tools are available from other manufacturers but the Fein, while expensive, has unmatched power, endurance and versatility. Cutting batten notches in the frames with a router proved difficult and,...
