Re: Biss's Malahini Build

I borrowed an engine hoist and placed the motor exactly where I wanted it, then market the two top holes. I actually hooked power to the motor so i could used the trim to adgust the angle of the mounting plate to the transom. Pulled the motor back and drilled the holes. When satisfied I hung the mot...

Looks great! Love the trim on the deck. Really cool. Sides look fine to me too.

Re: Malahini from MD

I guess you probably have seen my report on the 60hp I have on my malahini. The 60hp command thrust has a similar power curve to the Yamaha 70hp (4 stroke). The Merc supposedly has better torque at the low end of the rpm range, and I would assume the 70 would probably give a slightly higher top spee...

Re: Biss's Malahini Build

Thanks guys. Yes it is a real blessing to be able to share the boat with my mom and dad. They were both really impressed. My dad has actually designed and built a few wooden boats earlier in life. They were basically flat bottom fishing boats. Usually powered with a small 25-35hp outboard. I think h...

Re: MI Malahini Build, Post Flip.

Great videos! Boat looks great on the water. I assume the brown house is yours; very nice place and beautiful views!

So, have you been able to get your new motor all setup and tuned? Looks like lots of fun ahead for you and your family/friends.

Re: MI Malahini Build, Post Flip.

Glad you got your new motor installed. Sorry that you are having some performance issues, sounds like they are all fixable. You may need to go down further to a 13p. What is your WOT rpm, I'm getting about 5900. Your manual should say what range you should be in. I think it is probably 5500-6000. Yo...

Re: Biss's Malahini Build

I went with the 13.25 x 17. My motor is the command thrust version, not sure which one you bought. I just used Mercurys prop selector on their webpage. I'm really happy with the performance with this setup. Good hole shot and tops out at 35mph wot (5900rpm).

Re: Malahini performance

I stopped short of going all the way to the stem. They actually stop before going above the painted water line. We have been staying dry. Only time we get some spray is if we hit a really big wave.

Re: 20ft Texas Barrel

Looks nice. I had the same thoughts when I was doing my electrical. In the end, I just swapped out all my bulbs with LEDs and they come on with the key switch. I have the other interior lights and nav lights on a three position pull switch. Don't really notice the gage lights during the day.

Re: The Fletchers Malahini

Coming right along! Looks like you might be going for a fold down back seat. I'm really glad I added that feature as well as the hatches. There is a bunch of storage in the back of the Malahini. The fold down backrest gives you quick access to the big area under the motor well. That's where we keep ...
