Biss's Malahini Launch

After a year of construction, we launched our Malahini the "Jamie Lou" on July 8, 2019 in Hot Springs, Arkansas at Lake Catherine. I couldn't have asked for a better launch! Really proud of how the boat turned out and was really pleased with the overall performance. Below is a link to a video of our...

Re: Biss's Malahini Build

Thanks fellas.

Matt, I am really pleased with how the 60hp has performed plus after 4 days on the lake we have probably only burned 10 gal of fuel!

Re: Biss's Malahini Build

Well we dodged the rain Saturday and got to spend several hours on the lake. I pulled the girls around on the tube and they had a big time. The boat seemed to handle it all just fine. The 60hp merc has plenty of power to handle the two person tube. I also couldn't tell any difference in the performa...

Re: Zip, Ski Tow, Rebel...

I just finished a Malahini (stretched Ski Tow) and it seems to be a nice size for a family of 4. I pulled my girls around on a tube this weekend and the boat performed very well. There are several being built right now, so check out the build threads and you will get a good idea of what to expect. B...

Re: Matt's Geronimo

I was going to use some sort of door magnet, but turns out my seats fit tight enough that they are staying in place just fine.

Re: Matt's Geronimo

I stapled to the bottom and covered with a mesh material. Materials were from Sailrite as well.

Re: Malahini from MD

Deck looks great! So, I didn't fill the screw holes left behind in the seams from the clamping process and when I filled the seams with my mixture of microspheres/epoxy I has some of it seep thru those holes and drip to the bottom of the boat! Made a mess! Not sure what deck seam material you will b...

Re: Biss's Malahini Build

So it was exactly one year from today that I had my first entry in my log book. I cut the frame patterns on July 11, 2018! I added up the total hours that I logged building it, and I had 566 hrs! It was alot of work but definitely worth it. We plan to take it back out this weekend and pull the girls...

Re: Catalina 22 repairs

Nice work on the Catalina 22. Those are fantastic sailboats. My first time sailing was on a 22! Great size for a small crew and really fast on the water. Best of luck with your restoration project!

Re: Biss's Malahini Build

Thanks for all the nice comments and well wishes! We went out again yesterday afternoon. Spent about 3 hrs on the water. We are really enjoying the boat and it is performing really good. With two passengers (300lbs), at WOT, 5900, and trimmed we get about 35mph. Hole shot seems to be very good. I di...

Re: Biss's Malahini Build

She floats! We launched yesterday around 2 o'clock at Lake Catherine State park. It was just me and my wife and we spent about 2.5 hours on the lake buzzing around until a thunderstorm rolled in and chased us off the lake. We had such a good time, you couldn't wipe the grins off our face! The boat p...
