Re: Malahini performance

Congratulations on your successful launch and excellent performance.
I think the extra HP lets you turn a 17 pitch prop. My 70HP Yamaha turns a 15P and I don't think I could go higher.
Boat sure looks good (and a bit familiar ;-) Good choices on your part.

Re: Malahini Dash Positioning question

The back of my dash is 18.5" from frame #4. It is tilted at a 12 degree angle. Because I built a deck bridge to separate the front and rear seats, I probably moved the dash a bit forward to get two comfortable seating areas. There is no right answer, just, whatever works for you. Your floor idea sho...

Re: Classic Boat Collection

That is one incredible collection. Like the guy I met on steroids.
I did not go to the ACBS show, but looked at their website and remember the mention of this tour.
One wonders what you do with all this.

I guess it is like the saying: " The one who dies with the most toys, wins."

Re: Classic Boat Collection

This is last of the boats he had at the house. I did not tour his storage facility. This, he claims, is a one of a kind boat. It is a Larson Thunderhawk inboard. It was being developed by Larson to compete with Chris Craft inboards and was owned by the owner of Larson. However, due to financial issu...

Re: Classic Boat Collection

More pictures. He has a wooden lapstrake Thompson with twin Evinrudes. Everything is original except the steering wheel. I was amazed that the lapstrakes are made of plywood and through bolted with silicon bronze bolts. IMG_20170513_140706964.jpg IMG_20170513_140716484.jpg IMG_20170513_144508261.jpg

Classic Boat Collection

Talk about coincidence. After going to lunch at a waterfront restaurant at the Lake of the Ozarks, I was cruising the cove where the restaurant was located and was stopped by a guy in a pontoon boat. As is common, he asked what year my boat was. Turns out he has house in that cove and is a huge clas...

Re: Malahini trailer

Matt,
I think, as Sproggy mentioned, you will want to have a transom saver to support the motor while trailering.
It looks like the trailer frame does not extend far enough back. Maybe some extension can be added for that purpose.

Re: G-11 Gathering 9/14-17/2017

Well, I'll post my bad news as well.
We will not make G11 as my wife's 50th high school reunion is Saturday, September 16.

We will be traveling north instead of south to Hales Bar, sans boat. We had a great time at G10 and were looking forward to this year.

Re: Gentry build continued

Neel, I noticed that your rails, at the rear, is perpendicular to the side, not in plane with bottom. Is that the recommended orientation in the plans? I added rails to my Malahini, after the fact, and tried to shape the rails in plane with the bottom for the last 1/3 of the boat. This is the approx...

Roberta,
Do you have any pictures with your bimini up?
Where did you get it or is it a custom job?

I've watched quite a few other videos by the shipwright on repairing and replacing planks, caulking seams, varnishing, etc. It is fascinating and informative. As you say, you can learn a lot.

Re: Attaching Cleats

Hey Charles, good to see you're back at it. Sounds like you are getting close. I just used screws. Everything is mounted where there is oak framing, battens, or the sheer underneath. I haven't really stressed anything, so it's hard to tell if through bolting is required. I just bedded things in blac...
