Fillets
I'm ready to start fillet-ing the Kidyak and have a question. The Book says on page 286 that "fillets are applied over a surface primed with epoxy resin." However, the instructions don't mention this primer step. What do you guys do? And a follow-up question: Do you guys prefer to apply the fibergla...

John, sorry for the long delay in responding...I've been out of the country on a mission trip, then on vacation, with a few busy weeks of work thrown in as well. Barry referred me to a diagram in the instructions. It is supposed to meet corner to corner, both of them rounded by sanding. He also said...

I was afraid of that. I've been thinking about it off and on throughout the day and wondering...what if I un-stitched it and then epoxied a piece of ply behind the crack as if it were a butt block? If this were a powerboat I would definitely see replacing as the only option, but since this is a Kidy...

Kidyak
I have a question about the chine. In the book there are diagrams of chine intersections that show the side sitting on top of the bottom. However, the bulkheads of the Kidyak extend out to the edge of the bottom, seeming to indicate that the sides come down beside the bottom so that the bottom fits ...

Hairline Crack...Need Advice
I stitched the sides of the Kidyak together at the bow and stern and then stretched the sides apart to fit down over the bulkheads. Apparently when I read the directions I missed the term "loosely" stitch. I discovered a hairline crack in the starboard side, aft of the bulkhead. It runs from the chi...

Thanks for the suggestions. I was using some small (half-quart I think?) plastic mixing pots from Lowes that I got in the paint section. Sounds like the ones you are talking about only smaller. I wondered about the "pumps". Seems like I read somewhere on here that someone didn't like them, but I gue...

I'm building my first boat, a kidyak, and I'm to the point where you butt joint the side pieces together. I mixed up some Glen-L epoxy and slow hardener. However, when I went back the next night to check on it the pieces came apart very easily. I spent some time on this site reading the past posts o...

I don't understand. I mean, I understand why Mr. Perry would want to retire and that he deserves to retire. What I don't understand is Glen-L's decision to not replace him and therefore basically stop providing all of the frame kits. I am knew to boatbuilding and am currently working on my first pro...

Problem finding Marine Grade
I am new to boatbuilding and am starting out with the Kidyak. However, I am having problems finding 1/4 inch marine grade plywood. I have found some marine grade, but 1/2 inch is the thinnest I've found. I read the discussion on page 17 in Boatbuilding With Plywood that addresses the marine grade vs...
