Hey Bob,

There is a site called boatdiesel.com. For $25 per year, they have some good calculators.

You enter max. RPM, reduction, hull type, max weight, prop dia. & length of waterline.

They calc. max speed, prop pitch and fuel consumption.

It is easy to look at different options.

Saws

I have the 5.0 amp model. It is really nice to use. I wish I had bought it from the first. It would have saved time and money. The problem I had cutting two pieces at a time was that it was slow and the blade would bend off on the lower piece. Finally, found it better to cut the first then use it fo...

Dave,

You can remove one vote from blocking.

I didn't see it as blocking real posters. I just saw the porn post being blocked.

We seem to have good folks coming in from Hot Mail. I wouldn't want to lose them.

Great job! Go. I really like that plan holder behind you in the picture. Also, West System epoxy says that you can get chemical bond as long as the first/previous coat is in its inital cure (will dent with finger nail). West also says you can apply over the amine brush during this time. The Canoe Cr...

First Boat Build

:D In this forum you'll see comments on the C&C (Chair and Cooler). Lots of talk about BEER :P . Where do you think we get the courage to take the next step and risk messing up a few thousand dollars of material and time. You'll only make mistakes, if you do something! If you don't do something, you...

Toy/Tools/What Ever

Last weekend I ripped mahogany with my Table Saw. Best I can tell I'll end up, between marine plywood, frames and Mahogany, putting $300 to $400 into sawdust .

The band saw looks cheaper now.

Let me look at mine to make sure I'm through with the pattern sheet.

I want to keep the plans for record. But, I might let go of the full size pattern.

I'll be in Key West, next month. Maybe, I'll bring them.

John beet me to the punch. I was going to point you at sailnet also.

Also, there are a lot of good sailing forums out there. I keep up with hunterowners.com. Almost as helpful as this one.

Sailing Away

How big of a boat are building? And, where will you be sailing.

A big book on keel boat cruising sailing might be interesting. But, it is mostly useless in a dingy on the lake.

Thanks Dale. The only downside that I've thought of is coefficient of expansion. Would it try to pull loose or buckle?

Skegs & Spray Rails

I had thought over the weekend  . Has anyone tried using solid vinyl for skegs and spray rails? No rot, and scratches through the paint don't matter, works like wood.

Sail Making

I'm not sure you have resin coated sail cloth or not. But, if you do it takes a pretty good machine. I know I can't push a sail needle through by hand with more than two layers.
