Re: Slither build in GA

Saturday was a productive day. After restacking the plywood I was able to cut and dry fit the sides.

Next time I get out there I will glue and screw the at sections. Then I have to figure out how to locate and cut the transition.

Re: Carioca 17' Germany

I think having the transom drains is a must if the boat will be stored outside and on a trailer. If it will be in the water all the time then the drains would not be as needed since you could never pull the plug.

Re: Slither build in GA

The plywood from World Panel arrived on Tuesday. The semi could not of course get up the driveway so i backed my truck up to the rear and the driver helped me unload. Then i pulled up to the garage and unloaded it. I realized as i finished the last sheet that the order was backwards. The sheets i nee...

Re: Slither build in GA

He said he had no idea. Timber Town in Marietta needed 4 weeks to get it from their supplier in CA, plus shipping. world Panel was all in stock and the 1/4 inch was half price of TT.

Re: Slither build in GA

It looks like World Panel in FL wins the order. They have it all in stock. Before I order I have one more question - Is is customary to cover the frames on the inside of the boat? I have figured the amount for the sole but I would need to add more 1/4 if I cover the inside sides. I also considered u...

Re: Slither build in GA

I forgot to mention that I did put in an order for the motor. I went with the Yamaha F115XB. The total, motor only, came to $12,651.10. The expected delivery to the store is in August.

Re: Slither build in GA

I am going to start looking for my supplier for the marine ply. I want to get all I need if possible. I have allowed for the bottom, sides, deck, and motor well. Is it customary to do the sole in ply or should I plan hardwood for that and the inside sides?

Re: Slither build in GA

I am calling my other sources locally tomorrow in hopes they can order it. Otherwise it is going to include shipping costs. My wife said we can drive to pick it up in Florida, 9 hours, if we can stop at the beach for a couple of days!

Re: Slither build in GA

Thanks Roberta. Marine is definitely my choice. I was just looking at https://www.mcilvain.com/marine-grade-plywood/. This would have to be shipped I will call them on Monday to see about cost. I will check out World Panel also. Shame both are 8-9 hour drives....

Re: Slither build in GA

I have run into a slight snag in the plans and need some advice. It seems that my supplier of marine plywood in Suwannee GA is no longer carrying 3/8 marine ply and at this time has only 1/2 available with no idea when the next shipment of 1/4 will come in. they had all three sizes in September when...

Re: Slither build in GA

OK. No new pictures as nothing has visibly changed, but the fairing is complete. I just double checked the limbers and screws and joints and etc. and all look ready for the planking. I wish now that I had gone to the lumber yard this morning but it will have to be next Saturday. Just as well since I...
