Building Oars

I'm going to build oars for my 15' power-row skiff. I have the Glen-L plans for oars. It calls for gluing two 3/4" thick pieces of the entire length & width (mine will be 9' long) and the plans call for 5" blade width. I'm thinking to use 1/4" marine plywood as an inner core and laminate multiple various lengths to stagger joints to start out with the 9' x 2 1/4" x 5" width then shape. Sound OK to use PW as a core?

Sounds like a good plan. I would suggest to orient the plywood with the face grain running across the width of the oar. This will give more fibers holding the paddle to the shaft.
Nothing says poor craftsmanship like wrinkles in your duct tape!
