I completed a five Winter build of my Zip last summer and decided to start a Super Spartan this fall. This build is certainly going a lot faster.
I restored a 56 Mercury Mark 30H last year for the Spartan so it should be a fast one. I have also found some of the decals I need to go with the planned red and yellow paint scheme.
My goal is to smoke the young fellas and their jet skis this summer!

Looking Great! I built one for our Grandkids to play with. A 9.9 Mercury fishing motor pushed it along about 20mph. The 30H will be a great ride.

And thank you for your Super Spartan blog. Even with the help frame 2 took me two days to fit.

That Mk30H looks beautiful!
How about a couple closer pictures of it ?
Looks like great work on the boat too.

Re: Super Spartan "Making Good Progress"
I found the motor on Craigs List in WI. The owner was a collector and had not started it in 15 years. Turns out his wife had my Dad as a high school teacher back in Iowa, small world.

Re: Super Spartan "Making Good Progress"
That motor looks very nice; it will be lots of fun on that hydro.
I am not a racer, but I do have some Mk55 and 58 standard service motors.
Those race motors certainly have very short shaft length. I assume it will require some trial and error to find the best transom height.
No doubt you know the book suggests 12 to 14.5 inches for the Mk30H. I looked it up just for fun.

Re: Super Spartan "Making Good Progress"
In case you wonder where the transom height info came from....it did not seem to be in the "1965 & Prior Service Manual"
but it was in this one.
Note the comment about bolting on the motor....probably especially important with a surfacing prop.
I know a guy who didn't, and the outcome was not good.

Re: Super Spartan "Making Good Progress"
Those operating and maintenance manuals are gold. I had one for our 1969 Merc 500. A wealth of information.

Re: Super Spartan "Making Good Progress"
billw,
Thanks again. I could find nothing regarding transom height for a 30h. Look to get a couple of bolts as well!
