Walk through bridge deck on the zip

Post by rginns »

Hi,
This is my first post on the forum, I ordered the zip plans last month and they're winging their way over to the UK so I can't wait to receive them!
My plan is to start my build in June so I have enough time to research everything and rejig my workshop to accommodate the boat. Although I'm an experienced woodworker, boat building is completely new and as with many things, I'm expecting there too be a lot of unknowns to discover!!

My question is about the bridge deck. I quite like the idea of having a walk through bridge deck and I've seen a couple of boats with this modification, however as I plan to use the boat in fairly calm coastal waters, strength is my number one priority.
Does anyone have experience of this design modification?
Would it affect the integrity of the design?
How was the frame reinforced?

Any help is greatly appreciated!
Cheers
Rick
